Default 1996 mustang cobra upgrades

well it's been a few weeks with this car is a 1996 ford mustang cobra convertable. it has liltle over 90,000 miles and well the previous owner had threw in some bolt ons, bbk long tube headers, bbk x-pipe, flowmaster mufflers, no cats, bbk cold air intake, (i don't really like the sound of the car honestly, i'm go with either magnaflow or dynomax) and well an haven't really got used too the car since i been driving my 5.0 for more than 7 years so last night my friend got next to me he has a 2002 mustang gt convertable with flowmaster an a custom x-pipe automatic. so we line up an on green we smash i was ahead on 1st gear after a hit 2nd he pull on me but i let go of the gas once right at half off 2nd (didn't want to look dump) an well my question is does this car has to be tuned on every upgrade or what cause i think this car should be faster whit the upgrades that it has... but well i never had a cobra before just 5.0. my previous car was a 1990 mustang gt wit 3.73 gear, edelbrock manifold, 70mm tb, shorty headers, bbk xpipe mac dumpers, cobra clutch, an honhestly that car feels faster of the lauch from 1st to 3rd. but i know cobras are good in top end. the only problem is the cobra is drop and the long tubes hit on speed bumps, so do i swap headers to shorty or just lift the car up. what are good upgrades for this car her? thanks

You can put lower gears in the car like a 3:73 all the way up to a 4:10. The cobras came with higher end gears. And with the long tubes they will give you more top power. I have the same set up you do and I'm getting sick of the american thunder muffs I got on mine myself. I dont have the car lowered they still have the stock springs and I dont have any problem driving over speed bumps or such. Do you have under drive pulleys? If not there also a nice little add. Doing a tune with your car will help getting the best out of your mods you got. Sometime with the longtubes they will play with your motor running rich or lean. Do you have a white smoke coming out of your pipes (not alot but a little) ? Then you car could be running rich.

Over all keep the long tubes. There one of the best ways to go I think along with many people here. The o/r x-pipe will make it alot louder you could try a catted h pipe that will give you more of a deep to instead of being raspy and make it not as loud.

You have stock 305 hp and 285lb torque

the gt : 260hp and 305lb torque

With lower gears you got him/ But I think you would have had him no matter what.!!!

New mods, cam, intake, heads. Maybe a s/c
