Hey i know this has been brought up alot of times but i was thinking about doing a pi head swap on my 1997 Mustang GT and was thinking if it would be worth it just to save up the money to buy aftermarket heads, intake and cam then just a normal Pi Head swap...But if i do a Pi head Swap I was thinking of still putting in a different cam. Anyone please replie and if you think of another direction to point me in dealing with this feel free to say and yes money is kinda an object
What do you have done to it now? You can find cams from mild to wild, but if the rest of the parts can't support it they won't do any good and can kill power. The PI swap is a great starting point, but if you already have full exhaust and intake adders the aftermarket cams can do wonders. The heads are really a .02 call, personally I think the PI heads with a good porting and valve job will run with anything out there to a point. Do you want a street or race car?

just an FYI about you saving money for "aftermarket" heads, there are No "aftermarket" heads aval, only oem, as FoMoCo is the only maker of cylinder heads att for the Modulars.....I would just do the head/intake swap first, because of the cost

Right now i have off road xpipe with magnaflow mufflers, but no headers and i also have a KN FIPK2 CAI....This is all i have done and all i want is a street car to drive around with some horsepower under the hood. What you think i should do about the heads and intake just put in pi stuff or some other intake, heads, and cams.?? Please point me in the right direction.

What do you mean there are no aftermarket heads for it couldn't you put a set of patriot heads with either a proffesional prodeucts intake or a trick flow one??
I would get 3.73's for a stick, 4.10's for an automatic. And a tuner is another great mod, especially with gears, it lets you recalibrate for the gears, adds power, and can read dtc's. Subframes are a good thing to do early on in the mustang as well, they tie everything together and make the car ride a lot better.

those companys just use stock oem Ford cylinder head(s) and do prep work to an already stock oem Ford cylinder head, so That is Not considered "aftermarket" but rather a "remanufactured" part

So what you are saying is i would be better off with pi heads and intake and get the heads cnc ported...Can you do the intake as well?...with a mild to wild cam should really make a good horsepower jump?

Ya that all sounds good but what would ur route be for heads intake and cam?...And will the block i have be able to support the horsepower increase okay?

well, yeah, your the one who stated "money is an issue" so I'd keep it simple to start off wth, even on the camshaft selection....
As far as the engine standing i up to it, depends how many miles and how well maintained. I would get the PI stuff, have the heads ported and get a set of cams and valve springs. Which cams depend on you're goals, do you want a d/d, weekend warrior, or full on race?

I'm going for a weekend warrior with the additional daily drive but mostly weekend like 95%....What would be a good cam?
