Default When do cars start to naturally lose horsepower and torque

When do cars start to naturally lose horsepower and torque? Also, about how much do they lose each year?

Other than normal maintenance is there any way to combat this. I have an 08 and want to do the preventative things to keep this from happening. Thanks.

Almost immediately but it's difficult to measure. Just follow the recommended maint schedule and don't drive with your foot to the floor all the time and it should last a very long time.

It's just like resale value; they lose about half the moment you drive the car off the dealer's lot.

I haven't read about a single car here "losing HP or torque" after they were taken home.

Most Mustangs, in fact, seem to gain 20-30 HP within a few weeks of purchase, and several have picked up over 100.

If you were once worried about losing power, you've come to the right place!

engines, or cars, don't lose power under normal circumstances. on the contrary, it even performs better in time due to the natural wear on its internals. but of course, power is lost when compression is bad, intake and exhaust are restricted, ignition is foul, clutch is bad, oil is bad, owner sucks and many more.

"engine life" means just exactly that, a cycle. eventually, it dies. "periodic/preventive maintenance" prolongs engine life.
