Default functional hood scoop idea.. your thoughts? part 2

thought id throw this posting up here in the talk section instead

so ive been looking into getting a hood scoop put on my 99 GT (you know the one that came factory on the later gt's. and just for poops and laughter i looked into some of the older postings on here about making them functional. everyone was talking about cutting out the pattern in the hood and about how it would basically do nothing but make the engine dirty but i had an idea and im not sure if this has been done before but its basically the same idea as a snorkel on a jeep or something like that.

ive attached a diagram below of my idea basically it would work like this

rectangular hole cut into the hood

rectangular air intake fitted to custom air box which could either be take from another car and shaped to fit AND clear the engine :\ or made from aluminum to fit would need to be very thin to clean the plenum

air tube- made of plastic (might be a problem to shape) or that ribbed rubber tube material (cant remember the name)

basically you would then cut a hole in the in the air intake fit the tubing in and it should work

only problem with using rubber is that the suction would distort the shape of the tube and restrict air and become useless i think they have the same type of material but plastic that could work (i probably sound crazy i believe they sell this stuff at home depot if no one knows what im talking about ill find a picture)

to open the hood there could be like a clamping system that connects the scoop intake the the air intake that could be released while the hood is propped to enable you to fully open the hood.

i think this could work although i have 0 experience making things like this. and i just kind of bsed it as i went a long but let me know what you think and if you have any ideas...

and please... dont be a d*ck i already stated that im not an engineer or anything so if you are thats cool lets make a actually functional hood scoop that doesnt cost $800

i also added a diagram of my idea i just threw together

ALSO i just noticed there are a bunch of typos in my diagram cause apparently i cant spell? im sorry for looking like an idiot and hope you can forgive me ha. id fix them but im to lazy now. also the pdf file is a larger version the of photo attached and you can read the font much better

I think your idea would be functional but wont give you the perfomance a fender mount would. IMO i think if you "T" into the CAI pipe you wont be getting much of the air from the hood because the air will be sucked in from the side with the least restriction which would be the original intake path. Hood scoops were designed for carburated engines with no MAF. Best functional hood scoop for sn95 vehicles is the Mach's Shaker system.

Personally I think its a waste of time. It won't pressurize the intake (ram air), and routing around under the hood like that you'll lose any of the cooling effect making the intake charge hotter than with a cai, and you would want to have some kind of bypass valve to make sure no water gets in the intake.

Well if the tube ran down to the existing airbox you wouldnt need to worry about water because it would go to the bottom and out of the box. The system you are proposing is the same that is in the Mach 1s. You do lose a lot of the "ram air" effect because of all the tubing. I think the it would be better to go with an aftermarket shaker than to make your own, like you said, you arent an engineer. If you really want it, go with a kit. It will make your life so much easier and it will still be unique, because most people dont have them.
