Default Strange noise when pushing hard...

when im accelerating hard i get this strange noise that almost sounds like something rattling. it isnt noticeable in 1st or 2nd but you can really hear it in 3rd. i cant hear it when im just revving it in neutral so i dont think it's something to do with my engine. it really doesnt alter my cars performance but its starting to make me worry. any help would be great. thanks.

Next summer looking to go with:
Bilstien shocks + struts, Lowering springs (brand still TBD (any suggestions?)), MM CC plates, front + rear sway bars, subframes, and upper and lower control arms.
Time to make the pony ride some rails

You're going to have to be more specific than just a rattle under hard acceleration. There's a whole lot of stuff that could cause that scenario.

i shouldnt say "isnt noticable in 1st or 2nd". it is not present in first or second. i havnt really tryed 4th because i really never go for top end speed. going fast is one thing but accelerating is a whole different world for me.

sounds like lose exhaust or a heat sheild on your exhaust. jack up your car and start hitting it in a few places. its probably just a lose bolt.

Maybe something is wrong with your speedometer cable. I am replacing the one in my 1966 today, because it would start to rattle when the trans shifted into second (its an automatic) and it would rattle under hard acceleration.

Yeah, he doesn't have a speedo cable. Might be a spot weld in the exhaust heat shields, but from your description its hard to make a good guess other than the common things. You should also check the sheet metal plate between the engine and trans, sometimes that develops a high speed rattle.

That may be the shifter rattling, you can try taking it out and lightly greasing the pivot ball, but if its only in the upper gears under hard acceleration I think its coming from the shifter. You can also check the trans mount.

racin you're right. it was rattling and i put some pressure on the shifter and it stopped instantly. after i get the procharger im going to get an mgw short throw so i can deal with the noise until then. thanks for the input guys! and trent i see you have the tri-ax. did you use silicone sealant when you installed it?
