Default Which Stang Do I Get? 03-04 Mach 1 or 2001 SVT Cobra?

So over the past few weeks I have been collecting data about the Mach 1 mustang and the 2001 SVT Cobra and my parents said that by June of 2009 they will let me sell my V6 mustang and get a V8 mustang(I dont want a GT). I am in the dilemma...lol of choosing between the Mach 1 and the 2001 SVT cobra because they said NO WAY IN SAM HELL AM I GETTING A 03-04 SVT COBRA! LOL. Anyways I dont know which one to get. Let me tell you guys this though I want the one that will be a better top ender and will have more power I know that the Cobra has more horsepower but in a previous thread that I posted the other 4.6L owners agreed that it would be a driver's race between the two. So which one do you reccomend the 03-04 Mach 1 or the 01 SVT Cobra? Oh yeah and by the way if I get the 03-04 Mach 1 I want it to be an Automatic tranny...YEA I KNOW.

I would choose strickly by the name. Most people who own cobras say that they own a cobra not a mustang. Its a really good feeling to say that you own a cobra. I have owned mine for almost a year and I get compliments every day. Mach 1 i think was just a sell out to try to sell mustangs. Go with the cobra and be a part of the family. No matter what you are not going to want stock. We all do until we drive it for a little bit and then want more. Its in our blood.

I had on 01 cobra. I regret letting her go everydayThe mach has the cool retro interior but you cant beat the cobra's refinement.
I know a lot of people dog the IRS but I thought it was great.

Are you more of a drag racer or road racer?

I ask because the Cobra has an IRS, at least I'm pretty sure the 01's had it. That gives it better overall handling characteristics.

Unless I've forgotten more than I realised, the Mach has the 8.8 inch solid rear axle which hooks up better but doesn't have as much handling finesse.

Check into that and see what turns up.

i would go with the legendary mach 1 retro. cool shaker hood classic interior. 5 speed mach 1s have a t45 tranny and have forged steel crank and automatics got cast crank.

Ok heres the diff.

2001 Cobra
32V DOHC Iron Block
T45
IRS with 3.27 gears
Crome Wheels

Mach 1
32V DOHC Alum Block
Tremec 3650
Solid Rear End with 3.55
Retro 500 Mags and Shaker Hood

Now, I got mine because I wanted the Shaker, it looks really cool. Both cars are legitimately fast (Mach 1's top speed is 152 the O4 Corba's was 154). The Tremec is a stronger tranny, but not by much. The IRS gives a good ride quality. My advice is you cant go wrong with either one, but pick the one you like and don't get the Auto. If you want a true comparison 5 speeds are the way to go. They give you better performance and economy (my Mach gives my 26 MPG on the highway).

2004 Mustang Mach 1-281 DOHC @ 305HP, Shaker, 5 speed, 8.8 rear end with 3.55, Mach 460, Sat radio, Flowmaster Delta 50s, Clear Bright Fog lights, alum items for interior dress up, and an eject button.

I definetely want a car that will be the best in the quarter mile. Many people have said that the Cobra's IRS weigh it down when you are starting from a dead stop.

It's that wheel hop that will hurt your 1/4 mile times.

The '01 cobra has an aluminum block, not cast iron, and also has the t-3650. The irs has about 100lb less unsprung weight, which is better if you like turning, but is like 80 lbs heavier overall. Road racing or autox or everyday driving-> Cobra. drag racing-> mach1

edit: mach 1 also has '03 cobra heads, and is slightly undderrated in power

Wheel hop is what happens when the rear tires on an independent rear suspension start to break loose. It's literally the tires bouncing up and down which means that there are fractions of a second where the tires aren't touching the ground. It has a horrible effect on 60' times. That's why a lot of hardcore racers will do a 8.8 inch swap into their Cobra's. The solid rear axle doesn't exhibit such tendencies.

In your case, I say go for the Mach I.
