Default V8 Mustang Auto Tranny VS Manual Tranny?

Now honestly guys/girls when you get a V8 mustang 99-04 how much parasitic horsepower loss do you get when you get an automatic tranny? Because I am looking to get an 03-04 Mach 1 mustang and I noticed that the tachometers on an auto redline at 5800RPM whereas the manual tranny mach 1 shows a redline of 6800RPM on its tachometer. I have also noticed that most V8 mustang owners on this site caution me away from the auto tranny and highly reccomend me getting a manual tranny.

Thanks!

Fast 50 is correct about the crank not being steel (the autos are hypertauntic (sp?) ). They are not as strong. Anyway an auto tranny will lose anout 20 percent in power from the crank compaired to 10-15 percent with a stick. Plus autos are heavier so you have that little added weight.

I say get the 5 speed, no matter if you go with the Mach or Cobra. Both are great cars and you love it no matter what. (eventhough the Machs are better, lol )

You will lose about 22% of crank power in an auto, more like 12% for a stick. The redline is determined by the engine's valvegear, it has nothing to do with the tranny.

+1 on the 5spd. IMO its a lot more fun, but an auto can have some advantages too.

yea it just depends on what you want but if you get the cobra then you will have to get a manuel bc cobras dont come in auto but its obviosly your choice bc you will be driving no matter what it will be fast

u should just consider what the main purpose of your car is gonna be....if its gonna be ur daily driver and heavy traffic is an every day occurence like it is for me, u might want an automatic, but if u want a car to have fun in and stomp it at every light and go to the tracks and what not ud def want a stick, there just more fun and u def feel the power of ur car more...i myself have an 04 automatic and as much as i would love to have a stick im def glad i dont have one when im driving to my classes on campus bc traffic is crazy in my college town

I have seen fast either or, if anyone remembers Dwarr on here (Chris V.) he ran a 12 with his auto. I have yet to do that with my 5sp.

My brother also has a gt auto vert, which is the heaviest of all mustangs and his is still plenty snappy, but mine is faster, was even before the Vortech lol.

As for drag racing, you can get transmissions that are setup for it, I defy anyone here to shift their standard as fast as an auto can shift...

Thanks for the info bro because as I went through your post I checked off all things in my head that went under the category of stick... Stomping it at every light, and going to the tracks, and feeling the power of my car are all the things I would want out of my V-8 mustang! Thanks!
