has anyone seen the new post on the ford website. You can download the order form for the new 2010. It says theres a 4.0 and a 4.6, they look the same as the 05-09. what happened to the 5.0 and the ecoboost.
it's still early. according the the unveiling that was on speed last night we still have one more surprise in store for us at the LA Auto show. the 302 is back you just have to buy a saleen
check out auto blog they have 80 hi res pictures of the 2010
Check out the economics of todays markets. All the big three are hurting, fuel mileage really comes into play for one thing. Nothing wrong with staying with the 4.6 and let the aftermarket do their majic. The Ecoboost? New engine in the lineup when the 4.0 is shared by the Mustang, Ranger and Explorer. That twin turbo (or one like it) is likely to replace the V-8 in a couple of years. Doesn't matter too much what we want, but more on meeting the really tough CAFE ratings that are coming up.

The one hour broadcast of the 2010 Mustang Reveal at 11PM Eastern time last night on the Speed channel was designed to ignite interest in the car. They had a dozen historic Mustang race cars on hand and 15 motorsport celebrities, including John Force, Parnelli Jones, and Carroll Shelby. They showed footage that briefly reviewed the progress of the Mustang through the previous generations ('64-1/2 to '73, '74 to '78, '79 to '93, '94 to '04, and '05 to '09). Then they finally brought out several examples of the new 2010 Mustang in V6 and GT form.
Funny that they lumped the '94 to '98s in with the '99 to '04s, when the 2010 is a revised '09 (same as the '99 was a revised '98) with no changes to the frame or greenhouse (window glass and roof). They gave the 2010 fanfare that is usually reserved for a totally new design, not just a re-skin with upgraded materials for the interior. The 2010 is very similar to the '05 to '09 Mustangs. You'd need to have them side by side to analyze little things like the perceived reduction in size sought by Ford in changing the rake of the front and rear fascias.
The 4.6L V8 gets bumped from 300hp/320lbft to 315hp/325lbft by using a CAI similar to the '08 Bullitt Mustang. This is supposed to excite consumers when the Chalenger has 370hp R/T and 425hp SRT8 models and the new Camaro SS gets a 422hp 6.2L LS3 V8? They did say another surprise would be released at the L.A. auto show. Rumors have long had a 5.0L 3-valve coming in 2011 for the Mustang GT, and maybe an optional twin turbo V6 with around 340hp. (The new Lincoln will be getting the twin turbo V6.)
It was interesting that they mentioned FRPP supercharger power packs for the 2010 4.6L V8 (available through Ford dealers) which will boost hp up to 400 and even 500. There already is an FRPP supercharger available to boost the current 300hp 4.6L GT engine up to 400hp. Maybe Ford has done something to the bottom end of the 4.6L to help it survive being supercharged up to 500hp?

Yeah just saw the vid on the 2010 stang on Ford's website. It look pretty damn slick and the interior looks a little different too, sharp looking car. The 4.6 will stay for 2010 but i heard again in 2011 they throwing a 6.2L 400hp in there. Although witht he way things are going i have a heard time with that....we will see what happens though. I think at the very least the 4.6 should have a bullitt proof bottom end to handle large boost and power.

after all the rumors i've heard about a 5.0 and 6.2 with 400hp, to get 315 hp and try to run against the new camaro and challenger is a big disappointment. ford dropped the ball in the power department.

It has hardly changed enough to have bothered pay the development department at Ford to come up with it. If you are going to put money into a new design, change it. This is a pansy attempt to hang with the competitors. The camaro is going to kill the Mustang when it comes out. I hate to say it, Im a Mustang lover and own one myself, but the new Camaro looks awesome, as well as the challenger. I hope Ford can step up better than this in the future...

Yeah, the articles I've read have the V6 for the camaro making 300hp, I wish Ford would do something for the people who can't afford something like the GT500KR, it seems their mantra is "we'll give the average person a mustang, we'll give the rich people a fast mustang" They did enough hype about the new one that I hoped for something "new and redesigned", not altered just enough to technically be different and be able to charge more, but they can save money by not having to retool the factory. When the camaro starts killing the mustang in sales they may pry their heads out of their colons, but don't count on it, I love fords, and amercan cars as a whole but you're talking about leadership that has never gotten the big picture and reacts to a trend when its old news and something else is happening, that's why they've been behind for 30 years and probably always will be if they even survive, which is a BIG if. You can either set the trends or try to play catch-up, its obvious which they think is the way to do business, sad, but obvious.

So definately not liking the 2010 mustang so much it has way to much of a Euro influence on the styling of it for my tastes. I will say though this is typical of Ford to put too much into the advertising and the looks and then short the vehicle in the power department. Espacially on this latest gen of mustangs. Oh well i'll just continue to be happy with mine and the massive amount of after market options there are for it.

I agree with most Matt, but to be fair to Ford, they were the ones that came out with the idea of making a modern version of the vintage classics. They killed with the 05' Mustang, the sad thing is they see what Chevy and Dodge are doing and they put out this sad attempt at hanging with them. If I had the money for a new car in 2009 I'd get a camaro over the mustang for sure. Way sexier and faster. You're totally right on the "Big if" comment. Scary times for sure. I think they just need to manage their facilities tighter. Fire the execs and get working p.m.'s on the floor and out of their comfortable offices. It's that simple. They just want a bail out since our government was so mistakenly generous to the banks lately. Little off topic, sorry. Back onb topic- 2010 mustang- pointless to have even changed. Could make it look a lot different and better with a few aftermarket parts

I agree with you 100% Jimmeh, maybe you and I should take over Ford, I know if I had a hand in it, people would be seeing some truly awesome vehicles come out of there BEFORE they become a tired idea. I know that Ford dtarted the retro look with the 05, but as usual a good idea was left to sit. If you throw the ball downfield you expect the receiver to run with it, not wait for everyone else to catch up and blow by.
