Default Hi, I'm looking to get a 99-04 GT. Any advice appreciated.

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, but here goes.

Originally, I wanted a sixer because I thought it would be good on the wallet, but I found out they only save 1 or 2 MPGS, not worth it IMO.

I'm now interested in getting a Manual Mustang GT from 99-04. I love the body style, the 4th Generation Mustang is probably my favorite. Not really a fan of the 3rd, or the new 5th.

My questions are on reliability, repair, power, and overall fun. Most of my friends have Imports and say that a Mustang never lives past 180K miles. They say Mustangs are extremely unreliable and have clunky handling. I came here for the truth.

I also go to college at CSUEB, and it's a hilly commute. Do Manuals have problems with that?

Any and all advice welcome. Thank you.

What should I know being a first time Mustang buyer? What should I look out for?

Hello and welcome!

No, they are by far great cars! as for dying with low miliage, my car had 140,000miles on it ran great, burned no oil, so I superchared the ******* and have 14,000 miles on it like that. I was such a good car 3 other people I know traded in their cars and bought Mustangs~
There are several people here that have over 300,000 on their cars, I Now have 160,000 and run the shiz out of it every day.

You are looking into making a great choice! Good luck and Welcome once again

BTW: Problems with hills? NO WAY! I came from Colorado, at 8,000ft, we had "hills".. Called 13,000ft mountain passes. Even with my turd of a 97 not supercharged, stock I never had to shift out of 5th. That problem they speak of is because they have 115hp or less, and no torque. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

Handling? I can take on-ramps at 75mph plus, they handle great!

You should look out for the mod bug. IT WILL GET YOU.... Then soon enough you'll be pouring all your money into the car. They are fun cars, with relatively cheap horsepower.

Tell me about the mod bug!

I got it bad but the previous posters are all right! These cars can be made to handle and go relatively cheap and are fun to mod to see how each one improves the car. I've pretty much done everything you can do as far as bolt ons. The suspension upgrade transformed the car into a corner carver like no other! I ran it on a road course here in California(Buttonwillow) and had a few WRX guys come up to me and ask me what I had done to the car to make it handle like that! They couldn't believe I could keep up with their all wheel drive cars through the corners. I guess the 4.10 gears helped squirting the car out of the corners too!

A set of the new Trickflow heads, ported and polished, and a cam is all that is needed to really complete my car but, sadly, I might sell her since I have a dedicated track car coming to completion and I'm gonna need the room. If you're interested in buying the car PM me.

John

I havent had any problems with mine, but shes still a baby with only 34k miles. The last 2k miles are supercharged and she gets run and no problems. I also know people who have had stangs or Fords in gereral with well over 200k miles and still run like new. As for the handling part, with the right suspension mods they can handle like a dream. Mine handles very well for what i have done, stock the handling is descent but not too great. I would recommend a V8 stang to anyone. Just take good car of it and the car will take good care of you, you will get some miles out of her.

Your friends with the imports are wrong, and probably just afraid you'll get one and go out and fry some rice. They're great cars with tons of parts available and don't sound like a pregnant skateboard. Just look over any prospective cars thoroughly or have a mechanic do so before you buy so you know what you're getting and can get the best price for it. Then go out and spank your friends imports.

PM me if you want more details or want to talk.

I got a 2003GT with 31k miles, 10/10 exterior, 8.5-9/10 exterior, has minor rock chips and 1 minor door ding in the rear 1/4 panel EASILY fixable.

Full Bolt-ons, Supercharger, new wheels/tires, and fully loaded (leather) etc. Ill sell it for 17,500. You buy a bone stock one for a little less, but you will mod it and it will start adding up, up and up.

Supercharger has been on since May 07', have put roughly 1000 miles on it since then. I have a 5psi and 10psi pulley for it. Car is COMPLETLY reliable, I'd drive it from New York - California if I had too.

Car has NOT BEEN daily driven. I have tons of pics if you want.

yeah the car is a pretty good one, however like kennebell said, the handeling is not all that great stock, but with some new mods to it it does better. i think the biggest downfall off them all is the seat!!!!! i hate them! but cant find any that match the two tone tan i have and hold me in. you will go around a corner and if you have leather seat like i do, it will throw you out of the freakin seat haha, but its still fun. just the seat i hate. anyone know where i can get some that will match hit me up!!!

Ricaros will hold you in, and you can get them just about anyway you want, they're the high-end of seats and super nice, but they cost big $$$. There are a lot of nice seats out there, but it'll be hard to find them in two-tone tan for a reasonable price.
