Default 2003 GT lots of questions

Ok Dont really know where to start. I have a 65 mustang being restored now. I also have a 01 dodge diesel that is modded pretty good it has about 550hp. Its just Its a PITA to drive it or park it anywhere. So I found a 03 gt 5spd. That Im going to look at tomorrow. I am just wondering what I need to look for in the car. Also Just wondering what Kind of money it would take to get the car into a low 12 sec 1/4 mile? I love the looks of the mustangs but I dont wanna get in over my head on performance items. Just If yall can let me know everything. Im here to learn! Thanks!

Nice rides ya have there. I always wanted a diesel man they are fun to drive but they can be hard to park in a crowded lot. For a low 12sec GT your going to need some type of F/I. Look into superchargers, turbo or even NOS. Obviously i would reccommend a Kenne Bell blower to anyone.

Thanks man on the nice rides but man are they pricey haha. My truck I absolutly love but being in college in Houston just flat out blows driving it or parking it! My truck has been in a couple magazines but its not really anything special but it is a blast to drive. Im looking for a older 3/4 dodge that im going to chop the frame on and make a drag truck.

Well I figured supercharger for sure but I dont know what kind of supporting mods I need to do and everything. Heck Im used to on my truck o-ringed head and studs will go a LONG way on performance. Im just trying to figure out what needs to be done like supporting mods and performance mods to get me in the 12's. Thanks again.

Oh yea could you give me a little more info on the KB supercharger. The only ones I have ever been around are whipples and havent been around them but a couple times.

The KB is similar to the Whipple, just as efficient and in fact not sure what the main diff is except they are diff companies. They are both twin screw type blowers that start making boost in the lower rpm. Before you do this id recommend full exhaust, cai/maf, 75mm throttle body and then everything else comes with the kit. (Fuel injectors, fuel pump, 180 deg. thermostat, etc, etc.) Here is the link to the 2.1L kit which is what id recommend. Just dont run over 10psi on the stock bottom end, but this will get you into lower 12's and upper 11's with some suspension work and good tires.

if you're going the supercharger route it would be essential to get a dyno'd custom tune for the car after the install which might cost a couple hundred depending on the place.

Well went and rove the car this morning. It was raining so I didnt really get to check it out as good as I was wanting but it does drive pretty good. Couldnt tell about the power really because of the rain. It does have a check engine light on and when I asked him about it he sad it had aftermarket headers on it and it was the O2 sensor causing it because of the headers. Does this sound right? Im gunna go get it here again in a bit and get my mechanic to run a scan on it and see if thats for sure it.

That could very well be the reason the check engine light is on, but i would check that out very, very carefully cuz you never know. And yes the KB intercooled kit will get you into lower 12's if not high 11's.

The 2.1L intercooled kit runs $4999. You should make about 400rwhp with a dyno tune (which is a must) or more. Im still running stock clutch but am going to get a Ram clutch that is supposed to hold up to 600rwhp. Ive heard lots of good things and it isnt to terribly expensive for what you get.

Well went and drove it again today. Went and drove it kind of hard just to make sure things held up like no slipping clutch or anything but after I drove it kind of hard I parked it and smelt what I thought was anti-freeze and sure enough I looked under the car and there was a little bit on the ground. Told the guy at the car lot and he said he will get it fixed. He is going to take it to my mechanic and Im going to have him look the car over really well and run a diagnostic test on it and see if it is whats throwing the check engine light. What do yall think on the price. He wants $11,500 the car is VERY clean. it has 56,000 miles on it. Power everything even the seats. It has leather also.

I thinks thats a pretty good price, but you may be able to talk him down to 10k or 10.5k or something. Just get it checked first before you consider the price, could be some things wrong.

8 grand will definitely get you deep into the 12's if it's spent wisely. A KB 2.1L kit will run you about $5000 and it comes with all the fuel system mods you'll need to support it. A 75mm TB will set you back another $200 or so depending on the brand. A CAI (JLT is the only one I recommend) is another $250ish. After that you'll need upper and lower control arms to hook up off the line and there's another $500 or so I think. I would recommend a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, but there are several good brands out there that will hold the power from the blower.

As for what to look for in that particular car:
1) Oil smoke on startup or persistent while running is a sign of either bad valve seals or oil ring problems.
2) Drive the car and see how the transmission works, some effort going into 2nd gear with a cold transmission is pretty typical but not an immediate turn off.
3) Pull the dipstick and rub some of that oil between your fingers. If it's pitch black, walk away because the car probably has not seen regular oil changes if they are trying to sell it with old oil in the crankcase. The mod motors will run forever IF they are maintained properly.
4) Look for presence of a bunch of mods. If it's already been modded, the chances are that it's been beaten on pretty badly. I beat mine like a mule and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
5) Have a compression test done. If the highest cylinder if more than 10% or so higher than the lowest cylinder, walk away as that motor will most likely need attention before putting a blower on it.

pretty much any blower on a stock 03 mustang will get you 12s with 10ish psi. as far as testing Id take a code reader with you. check oil, check fuses, read comp and ofcorse drive it. + everything blue said. 11.5 for collant leakage + engine light. id pay 10.5 if everything is fixed.
