well, my car has a bad case of it. so far, I have replaced the alternator, idler pulley, tension pulley, and the serpentine belt, and while it has quited a lot, its still there.
before, i would later spray silicone spray(used to be WD40) to quiet it, and by that time, the engine would warm up and the squeak would be gone
however, this morning, it refused to be silenced i sprayed silicone spray on it, nothing, and i let the car heat up, nothing, save at idle it didn't make noise, but anywhere after that, it squeaks, its not super loud, but it is super annoying.
I have been able to find where the squeaking is coming from, the idler pulley. its been replaced, the shaft has been cleaned with brake cleaner, yet it still goes on.
I am gonna take it to a shop so they have to figure it out, but what do you think is the problem?
check to make sure the alternator isnt messed up. theres a bearing inside that somtimes goes bad and makes the fan looking thing inside scrape to hell.

The problem may be that you cleaned the shaft with brake cleaner, that stuff dissolves the lubricants and pushes it out, it won't be long after till it squeaks and gets worse until it fails. You can try pulling it out and lubing it, see if there is any scoring.

but its the same squeak as before i cleaned it, plus after i cleaned it, i lubed it up again
i wouldnt take it to a shop thats highway robery. try taking all the pullies off. make sure they all spin freely with no obstructions, and if there is any replace the part

Take a bar of soap like ivory any kind will work and very carefully while at an idle hold it to one side of the belt at a time and see if that quiets if it does you have a pully a lil outta alignment on that side of the belt if not hold it on the grooved side of the belt to dress it and some on the back side for the idler and some times taking the belt off and turning it around works as well remember this is dangerous and if you cant doit safe dont doit. that being said you may try spaying it with a belt dressing and not a lubricant product.

if he has a new belt and its tight thats not belt slippage. the dressing works well for any belt slippage. it has to be somthing else if the belts on tight and everythings spinning. maybe the waterpump is binding on the inside grinding up or theres a peice of metal lodged somwhere. id just start to take the pullies apart and try to find a problem

that might've been your problem. i was just gonna say since you have a new belt is it possible you got a 8 rib insted of 6? that wouldnt fit but maybe somthing was over looked and it chewed up and now it got streched out.. iono im just throwing stuff out there.
you actually probably dont need a new timing chain cover i had the same problem on my idler the one time tightened it to far and the weak cast busted. if you want to try this take the bolt out/ pully/washers and thread the timing cover in about 1/4" or 1/2" to get some teeth in there. then get a longer bolt, tap the hole and screw it all in there and make sure everrthing snug. or you could get a new timing cover and be done with it. lol

It's because you're looking on the wrong place to fix the squeaking noise.
Well friend... I'm sorry to hear that. I might have to say you have done all that work of oiling and cleaning and replacing for nothing and please, please, please... don't take me the wrong way. All those comments before mine have been VERY helpful but have you checked the ECR VALVE?
My 2001 Ford Mustang has a veeeery annoying and LOUD squeak that fades a bit when the car warms up or runs at higher RPMs than stand-by. I'm telling you... If you wanna check it go for it there. I don't wanna be mistaken and rarely do I speak if I don't know what I'm talking about. I read the whoooooooole thread and you've described a common failure caused by this: Ford Mustang EGR Valve - 3.8L V6 Gas Fuel | 2001 2002 2003 2004
So, before you HATE your MUSTANG... give it a try and check it out. I will fix mine as soon as I get a job because now I'm unemployed because of recession... but anyways, MUSTANGS are the greatest cars in the whole friggin' WORLD!!! If I was told to pick between a Lamborguini, a Ferrari, a Veyron or a MUSTANG... I go with the last one without even thinking or hesitating. So, my advice to you... check out the link and please get me some feedback. If I'm wrong, be honest... if I'm right... allow me humbly request some gratitude. LOL!!
MY MAIN GOAL IS TO READ A POST WITH HUUUUUGE LETTERS... I FIXED IT!!! So, stay in touch. I have a subscription to this thread.
