My car's slowly losing power. If it sits for more than twelve hours it most likely needs a jump. The dome light and radio work, but are dimmed and shaky as the car won't turn over. The battery is fairly new, what should i start looking at? Cables? Alternator? Can I check these to see if they are working properly? Any advice would be great.

take it to autozone and they will test alt and batt for free.

wish i'd known that before i bought both a battery and an alternator! still, like that red top optima battery tho....

my 1998 gt doe's this exact same problem. something keeps running the battery down but i' m not leaving any light's or switches on. when i try to crank it clicks (i thinks it's the stater clicking). the other day i had to jump start it. it started with a really rough idle and it was shaking badly. i drove it for about 2 to 3 miles and it was smoking underneath it from the starter area. it sounded like crap and was running poorly.

i' m sure this is a common problem and other people have had it but i wanted to post it.

also there is no suction coming from pcv.
