Ive been having a lot of issues with my 2000 GT
New Tranny just in today, needs motor mounts, half crushed oil pan, front sway bar may be bent...
Is this car any good at all?!? I know Ford made a good product but who the heck drove this thing bo and luke duke?!?!
Here are some numbers...
Car cost $3800
plus X pipes and cats $400
Tranny repaires- $1800
Misc- $200
if fix the motor mounts- $350
this brings it to $6550
Is it worth it to keep this car or is it just a POS
WHAT WOULD YOU DO? If i should sell what Mustang do you reccomend buying?
I just dont know what to do...
Im just 17 and this is getting pricey...
Is it time for a solid lower millage Fox body?!?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

What I suggest you do is to get the car appraised. You can check Kelly Blue Book or NADA and see if the book value is worth more than the repair costs, I would keep it. If the repairs cost more than the car is worth, I would cut my losses and get rid of the car. Just my $.02. Good luck with it!

well think about it this way, how much money is it going to take to make it a reliable car? i like to think of how much money im going to put into, and compare it to the amount i'd be able to sell it for.
here is my 2cents.. you've already fixed that major things wrong with it.. keep it a little bit longer and save up some money and trade in on a newer model. if you look around you can get a good deal on a use 04-06 model gt.

Tough choice, if it's costing you more than what it's worth (which it sounds like it is) then, sell it. Go for a Mach 1 maybe, you can find good deals on those

if its worth it to you to fix it, then fix it. my 87 gt isnt worth more than 6k tops but id spend double that to fix it if it came to it because i love it so much. im assuming this is your first car since your 17, but good luck with what you decide to do with it!
do you guys think this is the end of the issues
what else could go wrong?!?
i really like the car when it was driving well
and cant help but think how good it will be if i can just get it to be reliable

I respect what your doing at the age of 17 but if your car has lots of problems you may be in way over your head. All I dreamed about in highschool was owning a Fox 5.0 liter. I could only afford beat to hell fox's or very high milage. In either case I priced all the common parts to rebuild/repair one to keep it reliable as a daily driver, there was no way I could afford it at your age(I was about 17 when I started wanting a Fox). My first car was a hand me down with 120K on the odometer, It was paid for and I honestly didn't have to do much maintance to it, it was a 4 cylinder and reliable. After two years I traded it in for my second car which was a 4 cylinder Grand Am with a lot less miles. I put more maintenance into the Grand Am but also kept it longer. I was finally done with College when I bought my first car that I was proud of. I was making pretty good money at this point and still living at home so I had no bills and could afford my first sports car. After three years I wanted something faster so I chased after my second dream car, my Supra. I just aquired my 03 GT last Spring and to be honest I waited nearly 10 years to get it. It was well worth the wait because in time I became experienced enough to do all my own repairs and also establish myself financially well enough that I can afford the car plus insurance plus rediculous stupid @$$ gas prices when the crunch hit(last summer).
Moral of what I am saying, you may want to rethink what you are trying to achieve, patience is a virtue and if your in over your head you will want to realize sooner than later. Cars will always be around, there will always be a lemon, a tragedy that will financially set you back and a home run. I got my Supra for $500 two years ago.
If you love Mustangs that much then I would recommend getting an older Fox with a 4 cylinder motor in it and keeping it maintained while slowly building up a motor to swap into it.
Think about what you want to do in life(professionally and hobby wise) Try to picture where you want to be in the next 10 years vs right now, then set your goals for that.
Ten years seems like a long time for you at age 17, trust me we all have been there. I'm sure if you ask many of the people on this forum they will tell you just how fast it goes by.
^Im hearing you man and thank you so much for your input.
I feel like Im already in this thing deep which
This brings me to the question of is the worst of the storm over?? I would think it would just be normal wear and tear for now on.
Maybe Ill fix the mounts drive it untill the summer and then buy a solid fox body or early cobra... I saw a 94 Cobra w/ bolt ons and 70,000 miles for $4,500 and solid low milage foxes can go for about $3,500- 5,000 around me. Luckely my car isn't worthless.
Would it help to take it to a Mechanic to do a complete evaluation of the vehicle? Maybe get more of a look as to what may be to come?!?
Thanks everyone for all your help!

take it to a friend or a trusted mechanic if you can. What worries me about your car is the possible bent sway bar and damaged oil pan along with the defective motor mounts. It sounds like something really bad happened to your car.
I like your '94 Cobra idea, $4500 w 70K sounds very good. If you can have the car thoroughly checked out before your next purchase.
Just remember, your very young and have lots of time. There is no need to rush.
^ Once again thank you for your in put
and i agree w/ you
I think Im gonna back out on this one...
fix the motor mounts... drive it until the summer.... and say bye bye.
hopefully i can track down another cobra like that one
but what ever mustang i buy i will pay top dollar for...
ONE... a solid, low millage, few owners car
TWO... drive it to a shop for an complete evaluation
Like i said im 17... saw a 2000 Mustang GT w/ Upgrades for $3800... and bought it the next day! and now im in over my head...
Thats why i agree with you and thats why i think im going to get another mustang come summer time.
Along with the issues....
The sway bar (maybe bent) and oil pan (slightly crushed in) and both have what looks like red curb paint... maybe it jumped a curb?!? Is that a good way to take out motor mount too?!?

i think im still goin to take the car i have now to a tech to check it out...
it they dont see any foreseeable issues than ill probably just stick to my 2000...
Im not going to lie i really like it overall
Its a lot of fun to drive
like I said if i take it to a shop and all is well than maybe ill just keep it.

Alright you definately have you head in the right place with what you think about this car, taking it to a tech in imo a good idea. Have them check out that red curb paint really close cause if that car hit the curb hard enough to partially crushed oil pan that could definately screw up a motor mount. Also keep in mine you don't ave to pay top dollar just be patient you'll find the right deal. It took me five and a half years to get my mustang, and when I bought it in 07 it had only 42000 miles on the car, and I ended up getting it for about 1000 or so under blue book. Like it has been said you just have to be patient trust me I know it sucks cause now that i've got my stang I wanna mod it up but I can't cause I have other obligations. I know how at 17 it's like you need the Mustang or that's the end of it but be patient it will come.
Oh and the idea of gettin an old 4 cylinder LX is a good one cause those 5.0 motor swaps are not that hard and compared to modding a 4.6L car. Trust me I did the math the other night and after all is said and done I will have easily over 25000 invested in my car and that doesn't include the price. Now that 5.0 on the other hand those cars are lighter and you can make then pretty wicked cars all motor for about 10000 price of the car included. Well I hope I've been a little bit of help man just keep throwing out the questions that's what we're all here for.
^I sure will
and you are helping me out... there's a trend of " slow down" (which what they say to me on the street too... just kidding) and thats why i haven't just slapped my car on craigslist and jump and the next great mustang i see. Im considering every option now so I thank you all for that advice!
and there something so cool and nostalgic about a clean fox body imo
i grew up in those things... no joke I was taken home from the hospital in an black 86 GT and i was only 4-5 when my dad sold it and can tell you its a five speed, had burgendy interior, those 10 hole rims, and that weird chrome map light thing that hung from the ceiling.
srry guys dont mean to get all deep in here haha
