Contrary to what you may have read in another mass-appeal car magazine, the 4.6 engine under the hood of the Mach 1 is not the same as what came in the '96-98 Cobras (but it is the same engine used in the new Marauder). The cylinder heads are a new high-flow design (shared with the '03 Cobra), and the cams are different--all in the name of improved mid-range torque. On the intake side, Team Mustang picked 5.4 Navigator cams; on the exhaust, high-performance bumpsticks were specified, though we have no information on their specs just yet. There's more compression than before (10.0:1 versus 9.85). New exhaust manifolds were created and are port-matched to the heads. The mufflers have chrome tips and are tuned for a unique sound.
Air enters the 57mm twin-throttle body from both the Shaker hood and the usual fenderwell-mounted inlet. The aluminum intake, while similar in appearance to that of the '99/'01 Cobra, is unique, too.
I never said it was the same as the 96-98 Cobras, in fact I never said it was the same as the 99 or 01 Cobra either. I said it was similar. Yes the upper intake has been modified to allow the Shaker Scoop. I am willing to say the lower is pretty similar to the 01 Cobras lower intake. The motors internals is what makes it alot different.
All I implied was it had similar features to the 01 Cobra motor.

Also the Bullitt was not underrated. In fact Ford could not even get it to make the claimed 270 hp they wanted.
Why is the Mach One faster?
1. It has more lower end torque then a 01 Cobra.
2. 3.55 gearing
3. It is a little underrated, but not by much.
Also some of the components are different. The Mach One with a 5 speed has a different flywheel then the auto. However, I saw an auto run 13.7 with 1500 miles on it.
Now where do I say that it has the exact same motor as the 01 cobra?
the mach 1 is basically a GT stang with a dohc motor (who cares if its EXACTLY the same as a cobra) has sub frame connectors, stiffer springs and shocks and a diff cat back exhaust)...thats it..
I test drove a Mach 1 and was able to compare it to a 99 Cobra, and the Mach 1 felt a LOT stronger in the low to mid range of the rpms scale next to the Cobra. The GT I drove was a auto so I was not able to compare it, but it felt sluggish next to the other two mustangs. My perspective on my car changed a hell of a lot after I drove the Mach 1 and Cobra. Now my little V6 feels really really really really slow. But untill my wife gets her house, I can't get my Mach 1 or Cobra, that's the deal. I can probally get a GT now, but I know if I keep my current car, I'll probally get my Cobra or Mach 1 or even a low end Saleen next. It feels slower than a slug thou
BTW the dealer wanted $35k for the Mach 1 and $40k for the 03 Cobra and the GT was priced at $27k. and the 99 Cobra was at $30k. They did not have ANY Mustang older than 99.

Thats the pony package. My dealership had 2 of them.
My dealership has the Mach 1 at 32k and the Cobras marked up 2500 yet they have 5 on the lot. Dumbasses wonder why every other dealership in town sold all theirs, and they still have all 5 of theirs. Manager says someone will pay a markup!! maybe thats one of the reasons i left them.
