Well a few issues ago the Mach 1 was the cover story for MM & FF, and it out performed the 01 Cobra times even with the automatic version. The magazine went out of its way to mention this

I don't know all the differences between the Mach 1 and the GT, but I do know that the Mach 1 is DOHC and has 03 Cobra Heads. For slightly less than $30K (same price as my Cobra brand new) you can get a 5 speed that is faster than the 01 Cobra I don't think that's expensive at all. In addition the car itself is very impressive looking inside and out.

Stock for stock the Mach 1 will take a '99 or '01 Cobra on the 1/4 mile track.

Reasons:
1. Solid Axle.
2. 3.55 gears versus Cobra 3.27 gears.
3. Slightly under rated. Ram air helps as you go down the line.
4. Breaths better.

The above is no myth. I have seen with my own eyes.

30K for a '99 Cobra is way too much. If someone walked up to me with 18K I'd be happy. I have 39K on the odo.
I know of someone that traded a '99 in for an '03, with about 35K on the odo and got around 14K on trade.

They are out there, but buy the house first.

Port matched exhaust manifolds
03 cobra heads
intake cams from the Navigator
It's own exhaust cams
10.1:1 compression

Hey Sup Everyone I Have A Problem Well My 02 Mustang Got Total And Now Im Looking To Buy A New One..im In Between A 04 Mach 1 Automatic.......or A 04 Mustang Gt 5 Speed...so Which Would Be Best To Buy The Mach 1 Has Only 22k And They Want 19 Grand..the Gt Has Less Than 30k For About The Same Price...well If Anybody Can Help Me That Would Be Good Cause Which Is Better And If Its Worth Buying An Automatic Mach 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!or I Should Stick With The Gt 5 Speed?????

I have a 2004 Mach 1, but its a 5 speed and I love it. That would be my only hang up on the Mach is that its an automatic. I read on a website that the auto Mach 1 can still pull high 13.0 1/4 mile times. I guess its personal prefference. It also depends on what you want to do with the car. The Mach has the 4v DOHC Aluminum engine block. You could throw a rachet shifer on it to get the most out of your gears. In the long run I guess it depends on what mods you want to put on it. Pesonally, I guess I could live with an automatic Mach 1 if I had the right parts on it.

yeah i see ur point......well i guess im going to stick with the GT 5 speed since i might want to change the look of the car later on....and to the mach not to many chages can be made since i have to work around the shaker........but which is faster the auto mach or the 5 speed gt cause is a bit confusing for me..

The Mach is faster. Don't let the shaker intake fool you. You can still do alot to that car. I've seen superchargers on them. Basically whatver can be done to the 99-01 cobra engines can be done to the Mach engine. From what I read, its the same engine.

yeah i read the same thing but i mean the mach has 22k on it and for 19 grand wich is not bad but is and automatic..and the gt same yr but about 17 grand with less than 40k .....but is an auto fater than the 5 speed

I just got my 03' Mach for 15k fyi... 27k miles on it. bone stock.
