The Mach 1 is the only Mustang to have a DOHC and not be made from SVT. Also, the DOHC block is all aluminum so it is lighter than the the older cobra. The cams are different and I have ridden in a 99+ GT and the difference between the two is about the same as a 2bbl and 4bbl carb on an old big block. The new mach 1s are also faster than the original. I have seen a Mach vs the same year cobra and in 1st and second the mach was with him, then the cobra blew him away in thrid, so they are legitamently fast cars. The Mach's top speed is 152 while the cobra's is 154mph. So they are a little faster than a GT.

If your talking an n/a 99+ Cobra vs. an 03-04 Mach, then the Mach wins, hands down. Very similar powerplant with the Mach having the live rear axle and less weight. Also this thread was started in 03? Read this about comparing the Mach to the Cobra... Mustang Cobra, Mach 1, & Bullitt Comparison - 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine

Well after doing a lil bit of research yeah the mach 1 even auto will be a better choice then the 5 speed gt...my only concern was..water going inside the shaker but i hear that it has a drain system in it...am i correct to guess that......but i will like my new pony can't wait till i buy it.plus thru everyones help i think i made a wise choice
Get the mach 1 ,more power. I just worked on a mach 1 auto with a catback exhaust 4.10 gear and a programmer and that car pulled hard had to be low 13's or high 12's compared to my gt with N2O

It Would Be Very Close To 13.0 Maybe 13.1 13.2 Depending On Weather My Gt Ran 12.6 With N20 And The Mach Pulled Pretty Hard On Accel. And If It Would Break 13's It Would Only Be 12.9 Or Maybe A 12.8999999999
I see them at the track every sunday and there 13's all day long. most of them high 13's at that. there where a few that could not even get out of the 14's. they say they runs 13's stock yeah in a perfect world with a perfect driver ?

It does depend on the driver. I dont know if I could get my Mach in the 13s, but then again i have never been to a track. Also, the Autos with gears would be the most consistant, plus they were rated at 310 as opposed to 305 with a stick. Have no idea how that works but anyway.
Also, to answer the shaker question. Water runs down into the bottom of the intake tube (where the air filter is) and then out of the plastic cover. To get water into the engine the car would hafta be under water itself.
