Default 2003 Stock GT vs 1997 Stock Cobra

Just finished taking on my friends 97' stock cobra with my new GT.
He use to have a 98 cobra with a supercharger, bassini xpipes and flowmaster 40s so he is a pretty experienced driver. I'm new to the scene and he is showing me the ropes.
Went at it twice, first time he got the jump and increased it as we went.

Second time was a better race

We take off and stay head to head, I shift to second gear at 5500 rpms though, I notice he doesn't shift to second for a few more seconds. When I shifted to second he gained about half a car on me and increased it as we went on.

After it was over he tells me that his Cobra doesn't redline until after 7000 rpms. My GT redlines just before 6000 rpms.

Was fun !

Taking suggestions for mods under $1200 or so... Any takers ?

Sweet!! I also have a 2003 GT! I love hearing about the performance of them. Mines pretty new so I havent done much to mine either, only removed the air silencer and put in a K&N. Its a ***** to find parts for the 2003 everything is 2002 and under. Do you or does anyone else know how far back in year I can go for exhaust systems. Im looking for mods under the 1200 price range also. Im thinking Exhaust, new gears, pullies and a chip should put me pretty close to that price (not including install, Ill do it myself).

your '03 will also use the '02 parts. the only difference is the injectors. exhaust parts are usually the 99+ models is all that you can use, no earlier models that I know of. Just when you are looking for parts if it says 02 they will fit. on underdrive pulley's the 02 will fit but in mid year of 01 they changed the waterpumps neck so you can't use the 99-mid 01 UD pulleys. Steeda's site has a good example of what i'm discribing here. Good luck!

I have a 2003 GT and my roommate has a '97 Cobra. I've done a couple things to mine and he's done a few to his. Even after his exhaust, 3.55's and chip I can hang with him all the way to 70 mph. It all depends on how well I launch. If I do it with minimal tire spin, it's dead even. If I spin a little bit, he gets about half a car length. It's always fun runnin around in the 'Stangs.
