Default Frustrated On Possible Purchase

Long story short. Been posting on here to get opinions on prices and colors and so forth for my first Mustang. Ok, so been looking for three months or so, blah blah blah so I find this black 2000 gt five speed on autotrader, new posting. 93k miles, grey leather, mach stereo, interiors great, tires look new, all stock drives great. Price $6999 at a dealer. Ok heres the problem. The paint. From a distance its fine. In pictures its fine. Up close the hood is terrible! Its not stone chips, its like 1/2 inch to inch long like slices in the paint on the front of the hood, and clear coat scrapes on areas on the car. Also the roof paint is starting to lift in a few small spots. I really like the car I told the dealer the paint sucks, blah blah. What should I do? No way id pay 6999 for the car with the paint issue, but should I pass on it or try to get it to a certain price lower? Opinions? Ive been looking forever and this one is 65 miles from my house, fairly close.

I forgot to mention im 28, and not an idiot. The dealer keeps saying used cars are bought for clean interiors and drivetrains, not paint!

drive it, run it, have a mechanic look at it.

you can get it painted if you really love it

my 02 needs a paintjob too. if you are extremely patient you could probably find one with better paint. paint is very pricey to get it done right... if you really like the car get it...i think with time you could find one with better paint, etc...give or take some more $$ though

look in the owners manual.

if nothings there use my argument

"i want $500 more off the car because i dont know the history and this $500 will go back in to the car changeing some items that need replaced and looked after "

then take that $500 to get hood painted

i got the $500 off 7 out of 9 times at car lots when i was looking.

well i would keep looking for another car,but if it runs good and is clean inside, then have them knock off the price.i would have them drop it a grand or more, then if they say no,then too bad for them, move on

Always. . . Always buy your car exactly how you want it. You will save yourself money in the long run. Take it from someone who has learned the hard way. "Oh it's a great deal, I'll just change out the body kit for the stock stuff and have all that painted". It would have been cheaper to just spend 3k more to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I love both my mustangs. . . But sometimes I wish they both had necks so I could choke them.

It depends on how much money you want to spend A good paint job will run you between 2k-4k I checked blue book private part value for ocean city NJ for fair condition it is 4925$. I would start a little lower and try to get around tat price definately don't pay 6k for that car. The key is don't be afraid to walk away if he won't go that low then say This x$'s is what I'm willing to pay if you want to sell the car this is my number. I'll just about gaurantee you that he will call you back within a few days. Do not be pushed around you have the pick of all the cars out there he has only one he wants to sell it more than you want to buy it don't back down.

wow thats a lot of differing opinions. i am not looking to make this thing a show car, or anything like that. just decent paint. also i am not looking to modify the hell out of the car either, just basic stuff down the road maybe. i dunno. I am guessing he wont go much lower, but I am gonna start at $5500. I would give the car a 8 if it werent for the paint. I mean its really clean inside, and runs great, no leaks, nothing.
