I took mana4real advice and i went to the track instead of asking what my car would run here all the time...i ran a measily 13.9...ugh but i have horrid 60 foot times.....i think i have to invest in my suspension and a good pair of slicks to drop my e/t, didint powershift either...still getting used to the shifter, but i was chirping 3rd...here is a pic of my timeslips (and yes i know, i red lighted on the first, btw, dont think im lying cause of the date, this track sucks a** when it comes to technical abilities, the run was made tonight)....
if anybody has any tips on the launch with a stock 5 speed gt, please let me know, 2000 rpm launches really put my tires in spin
The way I understand it powershifting is shifting thru the gears like normal, but instead of engaging the clutch and letting off the accelerator you keep the accelertor depressed the entire time.
I've heard there are different ways of doing this, but this is what I did when I tried it. I started in 1st as normal when it was time to shift to 2nd I engaged the clutch but kept the gas pedal floored, shifted to 2nd, and continued this same process all the way thru the gears.
I have done this 2 times and there is a noticeable difference in your acceleration IMO, but I also felt as if I was gonna lose control of the car. I've also been told by several members here that it is very hard on your clutch, so I haven't done it again as I don't feel like paying $900 for a new clutch.

Yep, the 1-2 and 3-4 is pretty easy, but shifting from 2-3 can get a bit hairy. Make sure you have a rev limiter an dbeefy clutch. You will definetly notice an improved time. Also I don't think 13.9 is as shabby as you think for a first time..get some drag radials, drop your 60' an dth etimes will come down. Did you remove the jack and spare tire? Lower the rear air pressure (little on stock tires), raise the front to 45 psi (less rolling resistance)..all thses things add up. Good luck.

I dont like the idea of powershifting and hurting the poor gal like that. Get her going fast but dont push it, or she'll leave stranded on the side of the road.
Another form of powershifting is depressing the clutch at a minimum and applying pressure to the shifter until the gear slips in at the right RPM. Dont suggest doing that either.
i removed the jack and spare, also the rear seat, i had taken the right front light out too...i think my traction problem might have been the fact that i had almost no weight in the back
Good job man. All I wanted to do was break into the 13's and I did. You broke into the 13's. You should be proud. I left my car in complete street trim when I went. The only thing I removed was my speaker box and amp. I left everything normal. I also power shifted.
yeah, the launches are the problem, i loose a bit of traction on the 1/2 shift, but the problem is the actual launch...my 60' time is a 2.3 or a 2.2...all of them suck...that is my main concern...i know sticky tires are the best i can do to remedy those....will better upper and lower control arms help too?
Upper and lower control arms with poly bushings will help a lot, but you should at least be running drag radials to notice the biggest difference. If you plan on doing much drag racing I would also recommend some battle boxes for your uppers. Eventually you will see stuff start to break welds and pull apart. Dont forget some subframe connectors, those should be first and foremost. See if you can get them custom made, possilby at a good muffler shop. Get the full length ones and make sure they are fully welded in. You might also invest a hundred bucks in a battery relocation kit. Putting 45 lbs off the front end to the back end will help a lot. I have heard that 1/10th improvement on your 60ft times will translate to about 2/10ths on your overall ET. I personally dont know how true that is but most of the guys I race with swear by it. The goal is to get your short times down. By going to drag radials and some new control arms you should be able to do that...in fact you will probably be shocked at how much your times improve. Breaking a hundred miles an hour in the 1/4 is nothing to be ashamed of. Your times are pretty good and will only get better. I wouldnt doubt it if you got into the 13.7's or so with just some practice. Good luck.
