Default Trac Off button in 02 GT

when tryin to race in an 02 auto is it essential to turn off the traction control?

Essential? No... Smart? Yes.
Mine's turned off in my tune, no worrying about the pesky button (which is about to be my nitrous arming switch instead).

because when your tires spin on launch, the TC will kick in and slow you down if you don't...

Because traction control is applied braking so if you're racing and at any time you burn through a gear or your tire slips or spins all the brakes engage and from what I gathered from my thread on this using traction control when you're racing is like tying an anchor to your car.
