You're not gonna gain a lot of hp from cutting out the mufflers, and its gonna be a ticket machine after, I hope you understand how loud it will be... I have an offroad midpipe, and my car is really loud, yours will be a lot louder than that. To do this right, you'll want to mark where you will cut, and measure the length before cutting, then take the mufflers to an exhaust shop and have them bend some tubing to replace it, you can get them to flange it so you can attach with clamps, that way if you change your mind you can put the mufflers back in. I really wouldn't recommend doing this to anyone, but that's the way I'd do it. And the car in the picture isn't a 96 mustang, that car in the pic has leaf springs, and a 96 mustang has coil springs.
