Default Newbie needs some advice

HI guys I'm new here and I'm thinking of buying a 1996 mustang gt 5spd. It has 117,000 miles on it other then a dent in the driver fender the car is cosmeticly perfect. I haven't had a chance to call the owner about the car yet so I don't know if anything mechanincal is wrong with it. The owner is asking $2200 for the car. I was wondering what your guys personal opinions are of this car and if its wotrth it? And if there is anything in perticular that I should look at when I look at the car? I am a mechanic but I can honestly say i've not had the chance to work on one of these before. I have put heads on a '95 mustang 3.8l and I thought it was a pain. Is the 4.6L as difficult to work on? I'm sorry if this topic has been asked before but I'm new to forums and don't really know how to work them. I thank you for taking the time to read this and I await responses. p.s. I'm sorry if my grammar and spelling is messed up i've been drinking for a coulpe hours now. Thanks again.

Welcome to the siteIf the car is in good shape and runs well, then that is not a bad price for it.Just look it over well.

Thumbs up

They are really good cars, but the 4.6 is a little harder to work on than the 3.8 or the 5.0, still a good car though definitely a good price on it if it is in fair shape a good buy, just look it over well.+1

thanks guys. I just went and looked at the the car. My friend was wrong its a 94. When I looked at the odometer I was puzzled. My 89 ranger has a place for tenths of a mile(white while the rest of the numbers are black). The mustang's odometer is all black. Does the mustang not have a tenth of a mile spot on the odometer and use the trips tenth instead? If the odo doesn't have a tenth place the milage is 163,000k miles. If it has a tenth of a mile placement then the milage is 116,300k miles. Anyways is 163k alot for these engines?

Yeah check out the maint. records to give you an idea of what has been fixed already and to see if the previous owner kept up with it. Ive known a few people to get these cars up to 200k with no problems, but it can be hard to find a V8 Mustang that hasnt been abused. As far as the dent goes, you can have someone do paintless dent removal on it. If you cant find anyone, bring it to me.
