Earlier this afternoon, I finally had the race with the maintenance supervisor at my job. As a reminder, this was this situation:
We both have been talking a lot of crap to each other (primarily in the lunch room in front of everyone) regarding racing our Stangs. I'm a corporate Real Estate Lawyer (hell yeah, lawyers do race. Don't let my title fool you. I have more tatoos, drink more Jack and meet more chicks than most people out there--the legal field pays for my many "interests") and he's a maintenance supervisor at my firm. Finally after taunting him one day (in front of some chick that he's trying to get with) he challenged me to a race. To make the odds interesting, we put $100.00 on the race. Now this money isn't going to break either one of us, rather this race is about 2 major ego's.
I was trying to delay the race until I got some 4:10's installed; however, I had to bring my 01' to the dealer this weekend (my freakin left rotor had to be replaced, along with the brake pads; in addition, a rear rod (around the rear tires) have to be replaced. Obviously with all of this work being done, I couldn't have new gears and a chip installed--the chip is because I have an automatic).
Well anyway, purely based upon chance, I saw this dude chillin' in his 5.0 and I'm thinking, what are the chances on running into him on the street--plus he saw me anyway (we both have red stangs). Automatically, to alert each other, we both started revving our engines. Now, I have a Mac catback on my stang--I don't know what he had but once he started revving his engine and I was like "Oh, sh*t". We were on Eastern Parkway (In Brooklyn), everyone was completely watching because they all knew what was about to happen. To follow my tradition, I didn't look at him, rather, I opened my glove compartment and eased on my black leather racing gloves (Dude, I know that was corny but this is apart of my ritual). I hit CD number 2 and waited for the deep base and adreneline rush of Tommy Lee's song Face-to-Face to start pumping me up. Yeah baby,t hen, BOOM--green light. This dude completely smoked me, I mean his 5.0 had such a jump off that I started hurling every curse that I could think off (and I know how to curse in 3 languages) his engine was revving so hard. Now the deal was, we were to race up til the library, which is like 6 city blocks away (usually, that's where the cops are--prior to the library is like open country). If you've ever been on Eastern Parway--In Brooklyn, you'll know that each block is about twice the size of an average city block. Anyway initially, he had me for like 10 - 15 feet. We got to the next block and the light changed--DUDE WE BOTH TOOK IT. I mean, this was like some serious 2 Fast 2 Furious stuff. At this point, I had completely caught up to him. Dude, during this 6 block race, I was like F the practice of law, F the police and F anyone that gets in my way. Yeah I know, completely irresponsible but it was as if something came over me. Now a couple of blocks later, near the museum, the road further opens up from a 2 lane to a 3 lane and yeah, there was some bast#rd riding in the middle lane while we were racing. I was racing in the left lane and he was on the left lane. The poor bast#rd in the middle lane was probably thinking, what the heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now although he had the initial lead, I don't know what happened. I mean he could have gotten cold feet or his sense of responsibility came back over long haul but all of a sudden, my car completely took the serious lead. Now given the fact that WE BOTH ran 2 red lights, I came up to the library first, jammed my brakes and made a quick and LOUD right turn and Dwayne followed me.
Dude, I pulled over and it was an unbelieveable experience, my adreneline was completely rushing and so was his. Out of all of the races that I've had, this was my greatest. I mean, I've always wanted a 5.0 and I've always fully respected the engine but to think, my 4.6 completely took it.
I think D and I have gained a more--serious respect for each other. I mean, I've never had a race where I've completely ran red lights and not even thought about the repercusions of what could have happened.
By the way, lol, afterward, D and I went to a dive bar and ran up a $90 bill. He was doing Tequila shots and I was drinking Jack and Coke.
F, the money--it had nothing to do with it--this was about respect for each other and respect for the 2 machines.
I don't know why, but for whatever reason (it could have something to do with the 10 Jack and cokes), this race is still on my mind-- I can't wait until tomorrow morning to see how we react to each other and what people in the firm will say about it.

Maybe I should edit the part out where you ran the red lights... Or maybe I should add that it was in the middle of no where, at 3 am.... That would be slightly better... Glad you smoked em, but that was quite dangerous.
May I ask why edit anything. That was a real story. This is a forum chat and if people dont like reading races then get a life.I dont see the big deal in it.It is dangerous but things could be worse. It happens everyday and editing it doesnt make it go away. This is freedom of speech for gods sake I joined this site to speak my mind.I didnt know u all would edit stuff like that.

Great story by the way. Its dangerous, but I think we've all done something stupid with our cars at least once. But sooner or later the odds WILL catch up with you.
Later,
Jason

Good but dangerous story, I'm glad to see a conclusion to all the hype in that thread about a month ago. On a side note I've raced alot 5.0s and have never lost either, but then when I go to the track and video some races it always seems like the 5.0s are pulling better 1/4 mile times than the 4.6s I don't get it, maybe most of the really fast 5.0s only run their cars at the track and that's why I've only found slower ones on the street.
I remember one time I raced this yellow 5.0 probably a year ago. I mean he was revving on me, and he had the cowl hood, big shift light tach, and his car sounding like 10x meaner than mine. I was like oh crap this guy is gonna kill me. We weren't next to each other, rather he was in front of me in the right lane and it just so happened that we both were getting on the same highway. He rocketed up the on ramp, I downshifted to 2nd and did the same. He was lucky and easily merged thru the slow lane into the 3rd of 4th much less populated lanes. When I got to the top I wasn't as lucky and actually had to race the slow lane's traffic and get in front of them to merge before my lane ended without slowing down
Then I moved over to the lane right next to him, we both had to be going at least 65 or 70 by now, I was still in 2nd though. When we hit it no sooner did I shift to 3rd that I started immediately putting massive distance between us. I took my car up to about 120 mph, seeing that he was way way back in my rearview mirror I hit the brakes gradually and slowed down to about 85mph. He caught back up to me and nodded at me gave me the thumbs up and took off. That was it mutual respect, but I was really surprised I beat him by so much because his car sounded like the T-Rex from Jurassic Park lol
Oh yeah here's the public service announcement that goes along with posts like these "Ummm Street Racing is bad ummkay. If you street race you're bad ummkay. So don't street race or you'll be bad ummkay."
If you don't get the above you don't watch South Park, and I'm not gonna explain it lol

Finally!! Im so glad to here the ending to this story. I couldnt stop thinking that this was the race that would never happen. Good ending and Im glad is was a good race. Always have more respect for each other after a good race rather than a blowout. Who cares about the money. In a year when you guys are still friends you can still hold this over his head and make him buy drinks at the bar at any time. This will eventually force a rematch....so............ To be continued?
