Default Computer chips and tuners

So I am starting to mod my 2000 GT and I want to get the most out of the bolt ons I've installed so far. ( K&N FIPK, Professional Products 70mm intake plenum and throttle body, and Magnaflow cat back) Do you guys know of a website or someone I could talk to to learn the ins and outs about purchacing and using a tuner or buying a computer chip. I'd like to know as much as I can about them before I buy one.
Thanks everyone!

I would ask around locally to find out who is a respectable tuner in your area, and then go find out what they use to tune with, most likely it's Diablo or SCT. Then buy the tuner that's compatible with whatever they use, that way you've got what you need when the day comes that you need a dyno tune.

Would you recommend I get a hand held or a chip?

I would get a handheld, that way if you make small changes (gears, offroad X, change tire size, etc), you can make those changes yourself, and not have to pay for a reflash.

So with chips you have to send it back to get re-programed?
The biggest thing I am worried about is not knowing what parameters to change if I got a handheld, I'm new to the serious modding thing.

honestly, there's a bunch of stuff in the handheld that you won't use, but everything's very very easy to figure out. If you change to off road X, you go in to the Rear O2 Sensor menu, and click "off". If you change gears, you go into the Gear Ratio menu, and put in what gears you have. If you change sizes of tires, you look up the diameter on the manufacturer's website, and go into the tire size menu, and put that number in. The basics are really easy, I just wouldn't go in and mess with the air fuel and timing adjustments unless you know what you're doing.

Alright so just to clarify, what would have to be done if you change air intakes or manifolds? Would the hand held have the manufacturer or diameter in its data bank or whatever?

A cold air intake for pre-05's doesn't require a tune, usually the MAF will adjust enough for that.

I was just reviewing my post on here and realized I forgot to thank you guys...

So thanks a lot! I've finally got the money so I'm still looking into either the Diablo or SCT.

Thanks again!
