Default H Pipe or X Pipe

Once again back to ask my uneducated questions;

Which are better H Pipes or X Pipes? Differences in how they work.

And does any muffler shop do this?

Possible price range?

You can do it yourself, it only takes about 30 minutes. There isn't much difference in power between the 2, make your choice based on sound, and go with a good brand. An h pipe will have a deeper tone, like a classic muscle car, an x pipe will have a little more high tone and a bit raspy sound. There's also my personal favorite, the mac prochamber, which is different in design.

What exactly do you do? I have no idea, how to install or anything.

I'm pretty much like a retard when it comes to cars, but I make an honest effort.

its as simple as unbolting the exhaust and bolting a new one on. but if you really dont wanna do it take it to the muffler shop with your parts cause they dont sell them their.

Also. When i looked under my 5.0 94 i noticed it has straight pipe from one header to the rear and only one muffler no X pipe or H pipe. Should i buy a H pipe? or is it ok the way it is?

I don't have the stock mufflers, that won't pose a problem will it?

And what is the difference between catted pipes and non-catted?
I noticed the big price difference, is it worth the performanced increase?

Do I need to order the optional o2 sensor with these?

Catted:
Catalytic converter equipped(higer price)
Usually required depending on wheter or not your state/county reqires emissions testing.

slightly restricted flow, but better than stock.

NON-Catted: not equipped with catalytic converted(less expensive)
Better flow= more power/ nicer sound.

If you decide to go w. uncatted you will need to go with eliminators just to keep the engine light off and engine running right.

I see the eliminators sold as "plug-in" or "splice in", do they just fit onto the piping?

Also, are different x-pipe brands mainly the same? or is there a big difference in manufacturer quality?

I'm Looking at the uncatted (since I don't need another emissions check for a couple years) Magnaflow and Bassani, wondering the difference.

Bassani Off-Road X-pipe (99-04 GT Manual) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

or

Magnaflow Tru-X Off-Road X-Pipe for the 1999-2004 GTand Cobra at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

Thanks for your help!

One last question:
There's a category that says "Type Headers Required" and it says Shorty Headers.
1.)What are shorty headers, or regular headers for that matter.
2.)Do I have them lol? My headers are stock, from what I know.

plug-in MILs are nice...just unbolt your stock H and remove the O2 sensors and put them into the bungs in the new midpipe (H or X, whichever you choose) and plug the MILs into the connector on the end of the eliminator and the connector going back to the computer, im sure you'll understand once you see what im talking about. a word to the wise tho, this is not a tough job, i did my own X in my garage with my pops. use an impact gun if you have it...you'll also need lots of extensions and some universals for your sockets, BE CAREFUL removing the passenger side bolts that connect the stock H to the manifold and also removing the O2 sensors. from what i hear it very easy to break either one of these. just take your time and do it right. also when you go to buy the new midpipe it should tell if it is for shorty headers/stock manifolds or for long tube headers which will mean the midpipe is "shorty" style...if i've got this backwards someone please jump in! just tell them you have stock manifolds and they should be able to hook you up.

personally i wouldnt just go for the midpipe. if ur going to do that than invest in some headers while youre at it. the stock exhaust manifolds on your car are very restrictive, and its a very good idea to get a good set of headers along with midpipes. most companies sell theyre midpipes to match theyre headers. so if you do decide to go headers, make sure you dont mix and match, otherwise they just wont fit properly.

on which one to get i prefer my h-pipe. nice throaty sound to it. bassani is the best hands down for any exhaust. i would def go with bassani LT headers and shorty midpipe if i could do it all over again(even though the prices are alot higher). but all youre going to get is opinions and some wisdom the rest of us have acquired by each other or our own experience. shop around, listen to some advice and go with what sounds good and whats in ur price range. good +HP souldnt hurt either

So I need to get headers, in order to get the H-pipe/X-pipe I have linked?

i dont believe so...i believe the midpipes for shorty headers also fit stock manifold cars as well...someone please confirm this!!!! lol. I have a UPR o/r X and i believe the one i bought is for shorty headers/stock manifolds...i think im getting rid of it tho, im really digging the ProChamber and i think i'm gonna take the plunge and buy one. i hope it sounds good with my JBA muffs! not many sound clips of that combo out there...lol. i think thye're a chambered muffler tho so it should sound alright

The mid pipes for the shorty headers also fit the stock manifolds. You don't need headers unless you want them. Header install is a big job though. Many guys will say that the hp gain for the price of headers and install is not worth it. The mid pipe will make the car a little louder. To finish your exhaust sound, you will want to pick a catback that you like. Check around for sound clips of different exhaust setups. There are a lot of them on the internet and will possibly help you decide which exhaust combo you like.

01GTdarknessss... do you have the full JBA catback? Or just the mufflers? I have a JBA off road H pipe on my car now with the stock Bullitt catback, and was thinking of changing the catback now. I really don't care for the sound of the exhaust in the 2000-2500 rpm range. Was thinking of the MRT catback or the JBA catback.

i just have the JBA mufflers with 2.5" tubing all the way to the tips. i didnt know they were JBA's til i crawled under and looked. the guy at my muffler shop cut me a pretty good deal...220 bucks for the mufflers, tubing, and welding on my stock tip, all installed, he had taken it off another mustang cuz the guy said it wasnt loud enough...was only on there for about 500-1000 miles. i love the JBA's, i just dont like the weird "fluttering" sound my X pipe makes between 1000-1500 RPM which is where it ALWAYS is cruising in overdrive
