Default Luxury vs Muscle

why do car makers put big engines in luxury cars or engines with so much power? my friend bought a 98 cadillac deville with 300 hp. thats more than my frikin 01 gt. im scared to race him and i cant seem to offer him a valid reason as to why muscle/sports cars are the only ones that should be for performance. why does the new cadillac cts have 500..i repeat {500} frikin horsepower? i feel so lame knowing my grandpas beater from the 70's has a engine that could destroy me. why god why

I dont think the Cadillac CTS has 500hp. You might be thinking of the 550hp CTS-V with the supercharged corvette engine, which is only offered in the top of the line cadillac. Also, those old luxury cars are heavier than your stang. I mean dont get me wrong, in a race you should actually win but honestly not by that much. However, watch out for those damn G37's or BMW335i's with their 300+hp V6.

Yeah the puny 4.6L makes only some 260HP. Thats why I say start modding away. You have the advantage of weight and almost unlimited after market at your "finger tips" You don't even need to use power adders like superchargers either.

Having a ton of power in a land yacht isn't gonna make it fast. They get a lot of power because a luxury car is heavy and still need to perform at least decently. The old caddy's came with a 502ci motor, but they were still slow. Its rare for a motorcycle to be over 200hp, but they'll smoke most cars. Hell, the prostock bikes make a little over 300, but they have no weight to carry so they fly. I did race a cts-v a few months ago, got whipped, but not as much as I expected. You ought to race that 98 deville, you should beat him pretty easily less power and all.

My Mark VIII had 290 hp compared to my Mustang's 265, but was over a second slower than the Mustang in the 1/4 when they were both stock.

I'm not certain, but I think the deville is a LOT more than 569lbs heavier than a mustang, caddy's are not noting for being lightweight, even the piece of garbage cimarron was a tank. At that may have been one of the worst cars ever made by anyone. And I hereby apologize to garbage the world over for using garbage in the same sentence as that collossal turd.

Weight or not... most luxury car engines aren't geared optimally and generally their intakes are detuned. They're designed to carry a heavy chasis - not to propel you into the back seat with heavy torque on a spirited launch.

Just be careful on your run... do it at a track if you can.
