On Friday night officers cracked down on the roads in an effort to put the brakes on potential street racers.
Police personnel from Peel, York and Toronto, along with the Ministry of Transport, kept an eye on the streets throughout the evening. They were watching out for modified cars that could be used for street racing.
“[We’re] Targeting illegally modified cars, a lot of the import vehicles that young people are driving in [are] too low to the ground, have modified engines or using nitrous oxide to boost horse power or any vehicles that don't meet safety standards. We have a lot of young drivers driving in overpowered vehicles with slick tires and suspensions not made for the roads. That's what we're trying to take off the highways,” explained Sgt. Peter Orlovski.
The police initiative is part of Operation E-Race, which is meant to stop street races before they even get started.
One Mustang owner took their initiative to heart, saying he wasn’t taking any chances with his vehicle. He decided to have it towed home from a Markham-area parking lot, rather than risk being ticketed if he drove it on the street. It’s now up for sale.

Is it illegal to have my car too low to the ground? Or to use nitro? Or to drive with slicks on the road?

I try to just idle past cops now, so they don't notice me...

It is illegal to have your car too low, and it is illegal to use slicks on regular roads. Some states n02 is illegal.

Yeah it is illegal, But what sucks is I'm 16 and when I drive around my town at night every cop stares me down. It's like they are just waiting to hear my exhaust to rumble enough to pull me over. But the cops around here aren't as bad as what was described. But seems to me they are getting like that slowly but surely.

Here, when I drive by a cop, i don't usually go faster than him, but he looks at me like i'm doing sumthin wrong. Then I tap the gas and let him hear my American Car sound

Where are you in TN? I'm in Memphis and havn't had a problem yet...

I drive all around Knoxville and morristown and have never had a problem.All my Mustangs are loud ass hell too.I once talked to a cop and he said around here its not illegal to rev your engine up are it be real loud.I am getting sick of all this **** though.I pay a fortune just to drive u know all the damn taxes.I mean what the hell are we supposed to drive a freaking geo metro.

I live just outside of Nashville...but it's a small town. So cops know who to keep their eye on. And know where to watch for street racing.
