99-04 gt = to ?

what is a 99-04 gt with cold air intake, 3.73 gears, off road h pipe, catback exhaust and 93 octane sct tune equal to performance wise? im thinking close to 96-98 cobra perhaps.? thanks for all replies

it would definatley beat the 96-98 cobra. the HP might be around the same but the gears will launch it quicker. the one thing that is the biggest give away is the torque. the cobras have like 300 stock and the gt's have 305 stock. with the mods the torque could be as high as 350+ way more than the cobra. maybe its the nature of the DOHC engines but the cobras usually have nearlly the same torque and hp numbers. while the v6 and the gts have a substantial amount of trq vs hp.

I don't know man... where are you generating all this torque. A cold air, and a tune ?. I think'd you be close to equal but the 4 valve 4.6 engines are not to be ****** around with. They have a different power band all together, sure they may peak similar HP but they carry it over a much longer RPM range than your 2v with just a 93 octane tune and some beginner mods. Dynos would tell you everything, but even then, if you want to know, get a time slip and then compare with stock 96-98 time slips and youll know

Your WAY OFF Bro, a GT with the mods listed will be LUCKY to hit 250 RWHP while the 98 Cobra will perform quite well on the Dyno in stock form to the tune of about 285!

the gt is making more torque though. and he did mention 3.73 which can change a race in a heart beat. im not sayin gthe cobra is slow or anything .99-04 gt isnt far off from the earlier cobras

I just looked up in 2 different sources, both rate the '96-98 Cobra as running a 14.0 bone stock. My Bullitt ran 13.8 stock with good air, and 14.05 stock with horrible weather. The same publications rated the 2001 Bullitt as running a 14.1 stock, and the GT the same at 14.1.

Bone stock 96-98 Cobras were absolutely gutless, period. I test drove a '98 brand new, thinking about buying one back in '98, and walked away disgusted. "Absolutely gutless, pitiful excuse for a Mustang" I believe were the words I used back in the day.

in the cobras defense its got a way BIGGER potential and better mod response hands down.

I won't argue with that at all, but in stock form, it was not impressive at all.

I've seen 98's outperform 99-01 Cobras on the Dyno more than once, they pretty consistently put down over 280 while some 99's only manage 260. AND I'm biased towards the New Edge 99-01's since I own one, so it ticks me of when 98's do that!!

I Totally agree with that statement, I'll race a C-5 Vette any day of the week even though the Dyno says he has more power than me, I'm a Speed Shifting Fool, HA!
BUT Dynos do give an indictation of what mods produce dividends in the horsepower department, and without them we'd be grasping at straws to properly tune these cars!

I agree with that, the dyno is a tuning tool, just like a timing light used to be, but that's it.

I've seen 1100hp Toyota Supras that couldn't run 10's at the track, and get stomped by 400rwhp Mustangs.
