Default 1996 Mustang GT 4.10 vs. 3.73 w/ auto trans

hey guys, i have a 96 gt and basically stock, not a daily driver, i want to smoke people off the line . i want to put in the 4.10 gears but after reading more into it i hear i should go with the 3.73 because 4.10 is too much.
let me know what you guys think. after the gears i would get the 18x10 rear wheels and hopefully that would stop from spinning the tires too much.

thanks

If you looking for something quick off the line, fee it in the seat of your pants 4:10's all
the way. I loved them with my 01 auto. gears are one of the best mods imo.

On an auto trans I would go 4.10's, you may have some traction issues, but with a stock motor and trans it isn't gonna be anything you can't pedal a bit to hook up.

You have a 1996 Mustang right? It should have OBD-II, which means that you can buy a hand-held tuner, like this one...
SCT SF3/X3 Power Flash Mustang Custom Tuner - 3rd Generation SCT XCalibrator - FREE SHIPPING!
Or, you can buy the gears, oil, and tuner together...
Ford Racing Gears and Tuners at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!
(they also have the same kit with 3.73s if that's what you decide on.)

I was told to get the bearing kit if you have more than 60,000 miles on the car rather than just the install kit.

With the tuner you can adjust gear ratio as well as many other parameters, or you can just tell the guys at American Muscle what you have and they will give you a free custom tune on the tuner if/when you buy it.

The best part about ordering from American Muscle, besides the fast shipping, is that you get free custom tunes. At least for minor modifications, they can't tune for different cylinder heads, cams, forced induction, or anything more than a 100 shot of nitrous.
-P.S. I am not an American Muscle rep., I am just a very satisfied customer.

4.10s aren't even too much in my 2000 GT 5spd. You will be fine! I say grab a hand held custom tuner which will be handy for your current mods and anything in the future. But if not you can get a speed calibrator for a bout $300 less.
Speed Calibrator - SpeedCal at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

thanks guys
bigB653 thanks i love american muscle! also a huge fan! love free fast shipping cant get any better!
one fast mustang, i would get a tuner if i had an extra 500$ (love the sct livewire). i found something at steeda.com and its a small gear that goes inside the speedometer and recalibrates it. its about 20$. so ill put that in until i can afford the tuner, which will deff be my next purchase!

sorry last question.
Is there a break in period? and do i have to change the gear oil after a certain amount of miles? i heard both. i heard more saying no break ins and can floor it right out the shop.

Yes there is a break in period, and you should DEFINITELY follow it. Basically 200 miles of easy city driving. I know many people who didn't and never had a problem, but I also know many that didn't and had problems, 200 miles won't take that long and its well worth it.

For the first 200 miles dont do long trip (30min or less)... its the heat that kills em. But feel free to get on em hard and have a little when you get the car back!
