i hope im wrong and this is a huge mistake but ... i purchased my mustang about 4 weeks ago and i have been waiting to get the cash to change the title under my name .... so today i went got a smog check .... and looked at my plates looked odd... so i looked at my pink slip turns out my pinkslip has different plate number then the actual plates on the car.. but its odd because the vin number , year , car type and everything else seems to be in order except that..... IM SCAREDDDDD what should i do?

Wow well I think I would call the cops and let them run the Vin and hopefully you are wrong. But if you have a feeling there is something is wrong then you are more than likely right.

In California the rules are different. Old tags can sometimes be used with cars. This happens in Georgia as well, where you sell the car and KEEP the tag, then have it reassigned to your next car.
Look into the rules in California for this sort of thing. Don't jump to the worst case conclusion until you know.
Good Luck, my friend!

Dude dont even risk it. GO straight to the cops. THe people who you bought the car from will be sitting pretty on your money while your sitting the back of a patrol car explaining to them how you wound up with a stolen Mustang.
the thing is i purchased the vehicle from a friend ... in who he purchased it from a private seller the thing is my friend never purchased the plates for it or anything never registered it to the dmv what so ever and this friend of mine happens to live in another country and he thought it was too expensive to import it ... so he lasted 6 months with the car then sold it to me since it already had california plates... but since everything seemed to be in perfect order i didnt check the plates on the car and on the slip.... but everything else including VIN year model etc is correct.... why would the car be wearing different plates than the ones on the slip????? i hope i dont get arrested at the dmv tommorow wish me luck lol

Lots of times guys will put a random plate on the car when they sell it,so when you picked the car up the previous owner left a tag on it? I wouldn't freak out about that, just check the VIN# with the local police!
and well as long as the vin matches, and dont you have some sort of bill of sale to you or signing over the title to YOU?? if so, u definitely have a winning arguement...but yes, i would check with the local police providing you havent been driving it around unregistered

went to DMV everything seems to be fine since its a salvage title it needs brand new plates either way ... it gonna run me 500 dollars flat but i need a brake and lamp check... vehicle verification ... and surrender the current plates
