Default whats the difference between 1999 Mustang gt motor and the 1997 Mustang gt motor?

ive supposedly got a 99 motor swap in my 97 gt and was wondering what all the differences are. also was wondering how to prove the change (i.e. casting or serial number difference or something)

As far as I know the 99 motor has the better "pi heads " and the 96-98 motors don't . So instead of having 220bhp you should have 260bhp if it's stock. Hope I helped.

Yup, 99 and up have the PI setup, which entails different heads cams and intake and a different compression ratio. The block casting may be different, but I think the only real difference there is the bolt pattern for the valve covers.

the bolt pattern or oil fill cap also differentiated from the Romeo (mexico) plant to the Windsor (canada) plant... and im not sure but does anyone know when the 4.6's recieved the coil over plug design??

the coil on plug system literally means that there is an individual coil over each plug. there are no spark plug wires. with the older models there are two coils with 4 spark plug wires coming off of each coil that then go to individual plugs.

ok. so im kinda pissed. i now know that my motor is an older one. but it doesnt run like it has the same 146k the body has on it. i might as well figure im starting out with a stock car. minus the 4 series duals and o/r x pipe and full cai. im a little upset now. still glad i go it cause its loud and fun to drive, but i wish it wasnt a 215hp base. that pisses me off. willl a stock 97 gt motor run low 14.s with 3.08 gears and on dr's?

get us a picture of the engine and we can let you know if it is an earlier 4.6, a PIed 4.6, or a 99-04 4.6

even if u have a 99 motor in a 97 u can't tell by the coils over each plug because u still use the coil packs and wires unless u decide to switch the computer in the car u probaly have the 99 motor but it is hard to see.
