whats the difference between 1999 Mustang gt motor and the 1997 Mustang gt motor?
ive supposedly got a 99 motor swap in my 97 gt and was wondering what all the differences are. also was wondering how to prove the change (i.e. casting or serial number difference or something)

As far as I know the 99 motor has the better "pi heads " and the 96-98 motors don't . So instead of having 220bhp you should have 260bhp if it's stock. Hope I helped.
Yup, 99 and up have the PI setup, which entails different heads cams and intake and a different compression ratio. The block casting may be different, but I think the only real difference there is the bolt pattern for the valve covers.

That hunk of junk? Yeah, well I've made a few special modifications to that yellow 99 Gt, it makes the Kessel run in 12 parsecs and eats turbo japs and poops chevy's
the bolt pattern or oil fill cap also differentiated from the Romeo (mexico) plant to the Windsor (canada) plant... and im not sure but does anyone know when the 4.6's recieved the coil over plug design??

i think the coil on plug system was new for the 99-04s as well.

Next summer looking to go with:
Bilstien shocks + struts, Lowering springs (brand still TBD (any suggestions?)), MM CC plates, front + rear sway bars, subframes, and upper and lower control arms.
Time to make the pony ride some rails
and about the head cover pattern, what is the difference so I may look at mine and know. thanks

the coil on plug system literally means that there is an individual coil over each plug. there are no spark plug wires. with the older models there are two coils with 4 spark plug wires coming off of each coil that then go to individual plugs.

ok. so im kinda pissed. i now know that my motor is an older one. but it doesnt run like it has the same 146k the body has on it. i might as well figure im starting out with a stock car. minus the 4 series duals and o/r x pipe and full cai. im a little upset now. still glad i go it cause its loud and fun to drive, but i wish it wasnt a 215hp base. that pisses me off. willl a stock 97 gt motor run low 14.s with 3.08 gears and on dr's?

i wouldent put money on it. your car also has a return style fuel system which they switched in 99 to returnless i believe

well i saw the slip for the 14.14 he ran at the track. would that indicate there is more done to the motor? it does sound like there is a cam in it. but of course not sure

no 14.14 is a good stock run a really good stock run but it can b done at sea level and a good driver
and the 99 up doesn't have a distributor that's the first noticeable diff..
dude, dick, go ahead and put some 4.10s or 3.73s 4.10s if ur staying naturally aspirated, if u have an auto, and if u dont drive it down the highway each day as a DD.... and with those tires u will see what that motor TRULY has in it... trust me u WONT be disappointed just make sure u get the speedo recalibration gear from steeda for like 10 bucks

get us a picture of the engine and we can let you know if it is an earlier 4.6, a PIed 4.6, or a 99-04 4.6

even if u have a 99 motor in a 97 u can't tell by the coils over each plug because u still use the coil packs and wires unless u decide to switch the computer in the car u probaly have the 99 motor but it is hard to see.
and just so you know what she looks like. this is my b**ch, or rather my master right now haha
