i drive my car daily, so i don't want to tear anything up.... but i got to watching videos on youtube and such and seen a lot of people taking these 2v motors up there on stock longblocks.... so if it doesn't pose any problem every once in a while taking it that high i'm going to slap some 4.10s in it and let it rip.... because i would like to do full bolt ons and a 100ish shot.... if it's not too cool to take the revs that high i would like to go with the 3.73s... any opinions? thanks
hey man, word of advise.... 3.73 that i had i was getting about 26mpg on highway going 80'ish and seemed pretty fast... my 4.10's i just put in get me 20mpg and seem just a hair faster.. if i had to do it again prob just stick with 3.73, thats just my opinen... and red line is about as high as u want to take it... much more and your valvs start to float and thats not good...

the highest i would take it is 6000, but if you dont have too many mods i wouldnt really go past 5700. you really dont build any power after that.
now if you go with an aggressive cam or a centrifugal supercharger or turbo then you will build more power when the revs build.
oh and if you do go with nitrous try not to hit the rev limiter.

Next summer looking to go with:
Bilstien shocks + struts, Lowering springs (brand still TBD (any suggestions?)), MM CC plates, front + rear sway bars, subframes, and upper and lower control arms.
Time to make the pony ride some rails
+1 on the no more over 6k cuz ur not making anymore power after that without a supercharger or turbo... but even with them holding ur motor in the redline aint the nicest thing to do to it either... and if u drive an auto 4.10s are goood to make up the difference throughout the tranny the little extra lag u get... and 3.73s for a standard tranny cuz its direct drive from 1st gear thru no torque converter involved...
but i must say this specific question has been answered at least 100,000 times on this site lol as a matter of fact... there is a thread just below this one from monkeyman saying "how high can i take the rpms in my 2000 gt"

yeah, for some reason i looked right over it when i posted. then after i seen it and was like... oops.... but i got my question answered about the gears which was my main concern right now... after the 97 i had with the 3.73s i can not stand driving another stang without some gears to it... just makes it feel ball-less.... i was just wondering if that extra pep from the 4.10s was gonna be worth the difference in fuel costs... it is my only vehicle after all....
unfortunately, the decision to GET gears is an easy one to tell you to do, now whether u go 3.73 or 4.10 its up to you... thats just one of those choices the owner of the car has to make for themselves
