Default made my decision on gears, now about t-lock

so i'm getting 3.73s.... ford of course.... moser 31 spline axles... sct tuner for correction.... now my is in the differential... i would like to get a FMS trak lok... but it looks just like the one i got straight through ford for my 97... here it is Ford Racing 8.8" 31 Spline Traction - LOK Limited Slip Differential at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!..... but mine had the 28 spline of course.... are they both the same? because if they are i'm just going to get it through ford and save some money

and then i looked next to it and Ford Racing 8.8 in 31 Spline Traction - LOK Limited Slip Differential w/ Carbon Discs at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! liked the sound of beefy discs.... is this worth it the extra cost? and does it wear and tear faster? the car is a daily driver & once a month track car....

the reason i ask is because my mom works in Ford parts and i get employee pricing so if the Ford Racing parts are the same as the Fordwhat she can get then i might as well go with the better price, right...

i put the carbon t-lok kit in my 88 and it is a damn beefy unit my mechanic had to put the s-spring in a vice just to get to where he could grab it to put it in said it was a good 1/2 inch bigger then the factory unit.

so yeah it will grab alot harder

Even though it's only a once a month track car, I would opt for a detroit true track for durability factor alone. You want to build the rear end once, and be done with it. The FORD bearing/install kit should be fine and don't forget to have Moser press the ABS exciter rings pressed on the axles before hand and get 3" studs if you ever plan to run aluminum wheels on the back like pro stars. I would also recommend getting a differential cover like Summit or Trickflow. When the rear is out, be sure to weld the axle tubes and paint the rear with black rust proof paint.

yeha fit fine on my 88 and yeah solid rear axle was just a PITA he said to get the new spring in which holds the pressure on the friction plates. they are neat looking though not a solid ring more like pucks of it and you know its carbon fiber so you can tell the ricers you have a carbon fiber LSD lol

thanks for the advice guys... now that i just upped the cost for the install i might have to wait a bit lol.... steeda1999 thats a nice looking axle you got there... but for cost effectiveness would the cobra unit do the trick? i had no problems out of any of the 8.8s that i have had, if it were to break what would be the part to go? the discs? or the chunk itself? just curious, thanks

The only reason why it says cobra is because it's factory standard equipment on Cobras (31 spline) vs 99-04 GT (28 spline) Generally it's the discs that go, so you may be fine with a ford racing 8.8 M-4204-F318C because it comes with the carbon discs already. That should be fine for a bolt on GT.

M-4204-F318 doesn't have the carbon discs, so note the part number differences. No need to buy the american muscle discs if you get F318C.
