Default Can I use a different tire?

I just got my 98 mustang gt two days ago. All four tires are pretty bad and cracks are all over the place. I have the cobra rims with 275/40/17 size tires. The tire kingdom near my house has those size tires Sumi HTR Z III but they are $193 each >.<

This is a daily driven car on the street. No racing. Can I get a 245/45/17 size tire? I'm very strapped for cash atm but I need tires. They have a Talon TR968 for 83 and I am able to afford getting four of those.

Do you have any other recommendations? Or would that tire fit on that rim? Please help.

A 245/45/17 will fit perfect. I'm guessing it it has 275's on it then the rims are 17x9. I ran 245/45/17 on my 99 GT that had 17x9 OEM 95 Cobra R's on it. Check out www.tirerack.com for awesome prices.

These are the rims. I've been calling them Cobra rims because of the snake so forgive my noobness if this is incorrect. So your still positive about them fitting? I'm at a loss when it comes to tires.

hey man yeah ive got the cobra wheels on my 97 gt (but the black cobras that look similar to the bullitt(?) wheels)and i run a 245 45 17
and they are good. although, i would go a bit fatter if you can. the 245 doesnt look quite right to me, as i like the fatter tire less wheel well look. ill be switching to something with mor meat when i replace my tires after this winter.

ps. if you are gonna replace your tires, be sure to f*** the old tires up real good on the way. no reason to waste any rubber haha

also, let me share a bit with you i leaned recently. if you bought the car from someone under the age of a million, you might want to drive around wiht the radio off for a few days. lets you get close to the car and hear all of its little quirks. within the first 3 days i found out my car had a rear end issues, needed all new struts and shocks, has a bad motor mount, and has a minor exhaust leak near the header manifolds. that last one is due to tryin to teach the fiance how to drive a stick and she nearly shook the car to death.

but id recommend making sure everything is mech sound then have at it with every spare dolar you have to make more fun to drive. cause just to let you know, you will end up spending everything you have on her till she takes every dollar you make, and then some. haha.

welcome to the mustang, shes happy to have you.

Yeah the radio that is in there now sucks anyway so i've been driving around just listening to the roar of the engine. I have noticed only sometimes that when I am making a hard right turn a hear a popping noise. That is an issue for another thread though.

You're right about wanting to spend all my money on it. Ive been looking at performance stuff the past two days. Ive never wanted to with any other car. But I need to make sure she is mechanically sound first. Plan on seeing me around asking more questions though thanks again for the tips. Keep em coming

I see you are in the St. Pete area.... Check out this guy, he sells locally and delivers free... If you know someone that can mount and balance the tires for you, you can save a bundle... He has many sizes and brands.... 245/45/17 I believe is the stock tire size for your car, if not they will fit fine...

****New tires**sizes 17 to 20***

another option... these are good prices, but you will have to pay shipping.... Onlinetires.com - TIRES Search Results

hope this helps...

If you have 9" wide wheels, I would not run 245s on them. It just doesn't look good IMO. You can get some Sumi's cheap at:

onlinetires.com

They have the Sumitomo HTRZs real cheap. You can get those in 275s for close to what you would pay your local place for those cheapies they want to sell you.
