Default rings and emissions

doing the pi swap this week. just picked the heads up all totally rebuilt and shiney. one of my friends was saying i should wait till after emmissions to do the swap and that it would be a good idea to replace the piston rings. any thought? the motor is not smoking. nothing wrong with it now. to pass emmisions im going to have to put the stock h pipe back on cause im running no cats right now but i think thats it. thanks

If you aren't burning oil or smoking out the exhaust, why does he think you need rings? I have 119,000 miles now and 40,000+ have been with a blower and my car doesn't use oil or smoke and has the original 2000 GT engine in it.

If your car is tuned correctly (if needed after the PI swap), it shouldn't have any issues with emissions testing other than the off road pipe. Since you live in an area that tests for emissions, why not just buy a catted X pipe? I got one and it isn't a restriction on my car and I am running 8-9# of boost.

He's a mechanic but mostly hondas. Hence why rings have to be replaced. Hondas always smoke. I have this x pipe cause I got a really good deal brand new here on craigs. I'll thinking about haveing 2 hi flows welded in. That going to be enough for emmisions?

I bought a UPR dual catted X pipe on Ebay new for $300 about 60-70,000 miles ago and have never had a Check engine light.

If you weld in good quality high flow cats, I can't see why they wouldn't work just as well.

I pass visual and OBD2 emissions testing in TN with my high flow dual catted X pipe.
