Default What engine gets faster cheeper, the 5.0 or 4.6?

Hi everyone. I am in the market for a mustang again.

I was scared off of the 79' cobra i asked about along time ago because of reliability issues.

But i am in the hunt again, we had a 95 5.0 when it was new and as a little kid i loved it. I was looking to getting one for my self, i love the way they look but looks are only so important to me.

I can change sheet metal if i really need to. So what has a better street rod potential the 5.0's or the 4.6's? I had a 05 f150 with the 5.4 supercharged it gives me some faith in the modular but there is no replacement for displacement.

So what is going to get faster cheeper, a 5.0 or the 4.6?

Also if i was to get a 4.6 it would be a 00 or older. I am going to try and pick up a stang for 6k or less.

Any thoughts or advice would be great.

Thanks everyone

The late 70s and early 80s were not good years for most cars.

I would personally think that the 5.0 would be cheaper to upgrade as of now but I may be wrong.

Most! Depending on if the old 5.0 was a roller motor or not. Some of the internals were made for a roller block. I cannot remember the year for the roller blocks but I am sure many here would. But most of the bolt ons' would fit regardless. The engines on the outside were pretty much indenticle. Here is something I found....

Roller engines came in 85 1/2 to 95 Mustangs and LSC Lincoln Mark VII's. They use a 351W firing order. They do not have roller rockers (except the 93-95 Cobra Mustangs). They have hyd. roller lifters and use standard pedestal mount rocker arms.
