Hi I have a 97 GT with a K&N CAI and a xpipe no cats and magnaflow exhaust...I was hoping for around 400 hps give or take wondering what i would have to do to get there... I want cams though to give me that sweet rough idle.
Nitrous or forced induction. Your car has very poor flowing heads. The 99-04 Gt heads are good for 35 horses over what you have. 400 horses is a tough figure to reach without spending serious coin. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but a cam swap aint gonna get you there.

Throw on a Zex kit i think that will get you a somewhat reasonable hp leavel. but maybe cause unwanted results!!! I'm thinking of thowing on a kenne belle here soon.
Another thing if you do decide to get nitrous make sure to get a tune. i don't know if its true but a shop owner told me that he has seen a mustang melt the pistons on nitrous scared the **** out of me, so from my opinoin save up and buy a s/c.
i have the pi swap, hitech cams upper plenum, 75mmtb. its all in sig. it got me 300rwhp. then a 100 shot could always get you your 400 mark. are you talkin crank hp or rwhp?

This is the practical sensible way to get where you want. What gear did you say you had? That will help as well as some lightening.

Easy way is a blower or turbo but its spendy, but you will always have a smile on your face

A lil off topic sorry guys but lets say you threw a vortech kit on a stock 2002gt motor which obviously is 260 to the crank..what would be the flywheel hp rating after the vortech install with the rest of the car bone stock at lets say eh 6psi?
It can vary a lot depending on the tune, and with a supercharger, the tune is key, but I would say an otherwise stock car would probably see around 370 flywheel hp at 6psi, but its really just a guess, like I said, the tune and setup is key.

Same as any other, dyno tuning... they use realtime a/f ratio metering to calibrate a computer setup matched to the engine's needs and mods. Usually done with safety in mind as far as ratios and timing, but you can even go for max power (very aggressive, and not safe for the engine, basically race only)... dyno tuning is the best way to tune ANY engine, but IMO it is a must for a blown or nitrous application.

On a stock 2002 with stock internals, you definitley want a safe AF ratio, which will usually yield some rwhp. but i'd rather have 360rwhp and can beat on it 1000 times than to have 400rwhp and beat on it 5 times just for the motor to pop.
I know on my 97 Saleen, N/A, with CAI, TB, Plenum, Mid pipe, catback, UDP's and stage 2 patriot heads, i was at 290rwhp. With a 15% drive train loss that's around 340HP at the crank. I'm sure with long tubes and cams you should be right at or close to 400HP at the crank.

I say save the bucks for a blower..just get intercooled and have it tuned safely. You could still run 400rwhp safely, Ive had mine tuned for over that for about 4k miles now and have my fun with it with no issues. But for you I recommend doing the whole PI swap before thinking about a blower or turbo.

the s/c on my other stang .. 91 fox boosted hp to about 350RWHP @ 6 PSI with a 302 motor / e-303 cam..then again i do have some other mods ....so it might not be that accurate of an example. I wish i had done a dyno test b4 i had got it installed.
btw..I am thinking of supercharging my other 2000GT mustang it is all stock besides exhaust which has a flowmaster system and a CAI..what would be the price of a dyno tune after install approx (obviously not race only tuned)

a dyno tune will vary from place to place. Most that i have seen charge anywhere from 125 bucks to 175 bucks an hour. Some have a flat rate but it's a little different when dealing with a power adder.
