Default found an engine opinions

so today i hit up one of my homeboys mechanics turns out he has a 2001 gt totaled from the back claims hes selling the engine ... engine has 90k miles on it i asked him how much would he charge me to swap mine out and throw that one in so pretty much parts n labor and he said he would hook me up for 1,500 what do you guys think? I did actually go and take a look at the engine of course it doesnt start because he got it in an auction and came with no keys and inginition has a censor but he says he will give me 12,000 mile warranty....hows that sound should i grab the deal and keep my mustang or just junk it?

thats the reason im looking for a new used motor haha because it comes out cheaper then rebuilding the one i already have it cost me 2800$ to rebuild and its costing me 1,500 to have it swapped out for this other one with motor n labor included

i think that first u need to hear it run... make sure it dont tick... so dont let him strip it out until he gets it started... bypass the key or something, it must be possible... anyway if he gets it runnin, and u can afford it, have him swap it out... DONT PAY HIM TIL IT RUNS IN UR CAR THO!! only give him like 200 bucks the day he comes over and starts the project...

as for his warranty... unless he is a dealership and can write up a contract and eveyrthing this warranty he speaks of is worthless... even if u write up a contract between u two, its gonna cost u more than 1500 in law fees to get ur money back...

as far as the idea for timing chain and oil pump, its a good idea and all but i wouldnt F with it if it runs and dont knock and has oil pressure... you dont need another headache like the motor thats in there...

and YES, when u take ur motor out, take it out nicely and carefully u can turn around and sell that on craigslist or somethin for say 400 bucks... runs but knocks...

knowin ur luck if u tried changing the oil pump, u would get a bad one outta the box hahaha sorry buddy but u know its tru

stuff it in ur car, run the proper oil and just drive it.. make sure all ur fluids are topped off before u go anywhere... drive around town for a bit with it like u know 25 mile trips MAX for like 2 weeks and if all seems good, then take it wherever and drive it wherever...

and when ur done with all that lol i vote u sell ur jap crap and just drive one car... and put the money from ur jap crap into keepin the mustang runnin ur on the "ballz deep" end of this car, u have thrown tons of money at it, why not at least enjoy the dam thing and get the money back that it owes you?? let us know how u make out buddy i really hope u stick around the mustang fam...

i know its tough and u get discouraged but, just think what u will have in the end, and you will have a pretty good story all in all and didnt u say the body on that car and eveyrthing else is real clean?? plus those stripes look really mean

I would ask him to do a compression test on it before you say yes to it and watch it to verify. For parts and labor, 1500 bones isn't bad. Like mentioned, i would have the 12K mile warranty on paper signed by him and you but make sure it's for anything engine related that he will fix/replace.
