Default 429 Cobra Jet engine

so is it possible to take out my 4.6L and swap it with a 429/428 engine, because as im sure all of you believe, bigger is always better and why run a 4.6 when you could have that 429 CJ im assuming there would be some changes that need to be made, but is it just hose lengths and stuff, or would the engine be to long or tall for my pony...

Well those are two very diffrent engines. The 428 belongs to FE engine family like the 427 and 390. The 429 is a 385 series big block like the 460. What year mustang though????

Hmm well the 429/460 would be the easiest to swap in for sure. Ur ganna need a new edge big block 429/460 crossmember ,engine mounts or plate, headers, ect. and of course the tranny ..id recommend a c6 for an auto trans.

Wow man, I owned a 1969 428scj mach one.i think you better go look at a FE block motor
your 4.6l windsor or romeo motor is roughly
29 inches long 29 inches high 25 inches wide and weighs about 525 pounds

a 428/460 with an FE block is 34 inches long 30 inches high and 30 inches wide and weighs 650 pounds

if you use a newer one with a 385 block it weighs 720 pounds!!!

you would definitely have to rebuild the whole front end with much stiffer springs/coils etc. maybe as far as relocating some suspension components, possibly upgrade brakes, then you would have to do a tranny/rearend, possibly custom drive shaft etc...

you could get a motor that would easily produce as much or more power than the 428/460 for waaaay less work and expense i have seen complete 03/04 cobra motors for sale for under $4000.00. With a few mods you could drop that right in and for well under $10000.00 have a street legal beast puttin 540 or more rwhp down. it would be cheaper still if you could do a lot of the bolt turning yourself

the 460 is better than a 428, however from a practical point of view, you should either put a 5.4 GT 500 engine or a stroker 351 in for big hp numbers...but if cost is no concern call Sean Hyland and go for the sky

You'd need a ton of parts, front suspension, k member, exhaust, intake system, fuel system, cooling system, taller hood, belt driven accessories, ignition system, trans, driveshaft, mounts... the list is long and expensive, and even if you get all the parts I'm not certain it would matter, I really don't know for sure if the steering linkage would work.
