Default My 2000 GT Can't Hook Up :(

I raced some Pontiac car today, we took off from a dead stop - red lights - 3x today.

Each time, my tires spun and squealed for a good second before I slowly hooked up.

I really need to fix this, suggestions?

EDIT: Oh, I beat him every time though

Drag radials is the only way to get the thing to REALLY hook... dont get me wrong suspension helps but dollar for dollar there is nothing like a pair or sticky drag oriented tires (slicks, M/T ET Stretts, Nitto extreme drags)

Thanks for all the suggestions, she's my daily driver so drag tires wouldn't be the best I think.

I'd really like to go for those springs, and the control arms. How much $$$ am I looking at to install those? I have a very nice/fair mechanic my family uses.

If you are looking at what's cost efficient I would go with upper and lower control arms. Lowering springs would actually hurt your launch because they are stiffer and are taking away from the whole idea of weight transfer.

Next summer looking to go with:
Bilstien shocks + struts, Lowering springs (brand still TBD (any suggestions?)), MM CC plates, front + rear sway bars, subframes, and upper and lower control arms.
Time to make the pony ride some rails

Before you start spending money on mods, the question is how are you launching? Could your technique be improved?

I highly doubt you'll notice a tremendous difference in traction, near stock with street tires, after adding UCAs and LCAs. They're not some magic bullet for traction problems, they're just part of an overall package.

The elderbrock springs say they shift weight to better places, is this just marketing?

I'm sure it could!

What should I be doing?

you ever thought about taking it to the track. this will give you an idea of how bad or good your launching techinques are by timing your 60'. just a thought if you think your launching is sucking.

Whats your current launch technique? Can you describe how the car responds while launching (aside from spinning the tires )

Don't worry, it can't be any worse than my technique when I started drag racing. My first run was a smoking 17.1 @ 90x mph with a 3.0 + 60ft!

Basically the Mustang has a bad weight ratio for a good launch, not to mention as many have that the tires make a huge difference, suspension upgrades are more than mandatory to help overcome these factory flaws...I have Granatelli uppper and lower rear control arms on my Cobra, ditched the quad shock and replaced them with koni springs/struts/shocks...a mere $2500 for all that, then about $400 for subframe connectors welded in, it definitely helps with the "bite" and handling...got cash? You will need it if you get busted street racing.
