Default What mod to do? N/A...

So I'm ready to do some work to the engine.. I've got a cold air intake, tuned chip and steeda exhaust on my 01 GT 2V 4.6L...

The problem.. I don't see a lot for my motor, at least a lot that make sense.. I'm not super/turbo it (yet), most of the cams say for "super/nitrous" engines.. valve springs and rockers make sense, but I've been unable to find a 2V kit, seems like everything is for 4V and 5.0 and can I put on of these in if I'm still NA?

So what should I do? Thinking pullys are a no-brainer, but I'd like something with a little more impact, without spending thousands.. something worth the price but not to the point I'm askig myself "why not a vortech/procharger...?"

What about cams, valves and springs with stock heads? I've heard some say you need the heads... ? but then youre getting into boosted costs.. the stock heads should be able to deal right?

Depending on how picky your smog laws are, most NA cams will fail due to the high overlap. Cams are not cheap either once you figure the install costs can be over $1000. Some guys just pop them in and they work sometimes, but they should be degreed with a wheel, and that pretty much requires the removal of the engine. Getting NA power is never cheap, never has smooth driveability, usually won't pass smog, and takes a lot of $$$ to do it right. What about nitrous? Its cheap and easy, just set it up right.

Gears will make a helluva difference on how that car performs. They're not stupid expensive, and add much to the fun factor. UD pulleys are ok, I guess. Till you have to take 'em off because you got the modbug and install a S/C.
Random question, and sorry for jacking your thread, dude...Does anyone run MSD ignition on their ride? I've heard good things about power gains from them. Maybe it's BS, but YeloPony could look into those too. I think the MSDs coil on plug setup goes for around 485$ or so.

Everything I read about coils basically says stock is just fine till you're crazy modded... I looked at it but couldn't justfy the costs vs. a plenum+TB or something else around $200-$300...

Its total BS that there would be any power gains. The COPs are probably fine until 30+ psi or 8000+ rpms.

i dont know.... more powerful spark = more powerful combustion with no quest and if there is good amount of intake work than you'll see power gains. nothing crazy but you'll gain imo.

and gears are a great idea! i love my 4.10's in my 5spd. Where do you tend to drive the car. Highway or more city or is it a fun cruiser? That all plays into gear ratio selection that would be best for you.

That is only if you increase the gap, and gains will be small. And if you increase the timing, the net effect is the same. Maybe you could make a couple hp if you went to a 0.075" gap and 40KV, but why not increase the timing a bit? If you do not change the gap, and you are not getting blow out, then increasing the voltage will do NOTHING.

Gears, Gears, Gears.......

As far as cams, check out the HiTech Stage 2's. Good cam that will give you great gains without a lot of worries that other cams come with.

I've got gears already..

was looking at the bbk plenum+78mm, but some say it's too much of a 'hole' if you're not boosted? any opinions on that?

unless you're boosted, 78mm is too big. You should be fine with a 70mm.

Dude you gotta ask yourself "how much do I have to spend?" Really, I'm not being an a$$hole, sometimes you really should take that number and add it to what you could sell your car for and buy something else... usually a pre-modded car might be the same or a little more than what you can get for your car + a little cash rather than trying the redo/reengineer your car (look at Ebay, you'll see what I mean)...really, I know, I've gone through it, for what I've spent on my 96 Cobra I could almost have a newer Z06 Corvette or easily a Terminator.

i havent read much of other peoples input, but be sure your looking at americanmuscle.com

cams would be a cool addition, would give the impression of speed to passerbys, wouldnt feel to much power.

throttle body, pulleys, gears..

nothing wrong with exhaust work!
