Default 255-35-18 tires

I'm thinking of getting me rims 18X9 i was wondering for the front if 255-35-18 tires will fit fine because i don't really want to go much wider then that on the front.

I think that a 255 with a 35 profile will look way to small on your car. you should try a 245/40/r18 in the front and im not sure if you want to but you could step up to an 18x10 in the back and put a 285/35 r18 on there. Iv been lookin at rims too and thats what im guna do the price isnt that much more and it will make ur car mean looking
plus with an 18x10 you could go up to a 305 if u ever wanted to.

GO BIG OR GO HOME... LOL

your side walls are mesured in a % of the with like a 245/40 is a tire that is 245mm wide and 40% of that is how hight the side wall is so it would be 98mm

now a 285/35 is 285mm by 99.75mm so even though the side wall PERCENT is diffrent the hight is still the same.

SO, a 245/40r18 will look the same as a 285/35r17 the diff is only 1.75mm thats like about the with of a penny

so are 265-35-18 and 285-35-18 actually the same side wall then?

No the side wall is a percent of the with

265 / 35 / r 18

^ ^ ^
with in mm / % of with = side wall / size of rim

so it is a 265mm/92mm r18 the side wall is rated as a percent of the with

you can fint the hight of the side wall by multipling the with by the side wall percent

265 X .35 = 92 so the side wall is 92mm tall

I always thought it was nice of whoever came up with the standard to measure the width in mm, the height in a relative percent, and the rim diameter (and width) in inches!

They probably also measure their mileage in rods per hogshead, and speed in furlongs per fortnight!
