Whats up people..I just wanted to get a little feedback because I am trying to come up with a plan. I want to go s/c but dont know if it is safe for the age of the motor. I have a 2002 Gt with about 88,000 as of now and bought it used about 5 months ago. My questions are:
1). How many miles did you have when you went FI?
2.) What is a safe age for a motor to run on FI?
3). What is the "peak" for a 4.6? And how long can I expect from a N/A motor? S/C?
This is of course that the motor was well maintained and not beat to death. I guess the problem for me is that I dont know just how much damage this motor has been givin. I am the 3rd owner. The motor is strong and has no smoke but the driveline was obviously neglected. My tranny is shot and my motor mounts are bad. So I am kinda scared to go FI and for it go BOOM! Let me know your experiance...Thanks
I went forced induction with my vortech v3 supercharger at 22K I now have 24 thousand miles and I haven't had a problem yet with it. I wouldn't worry to much about it these engines can take a lot.

My 2000 GT had 78,412 miles when I went FI on it. I have owned it since 24,900 miles and it has been my daily driver since 2003. Keep the oil level at full, the maintenance performed, fresh plugs and a good tune and you will be fine.
I now have 120,000 miles with 8-9# of boot and no issues. The oil pan & valve covers and water pump have NEVER been removed and the alternator and fuel pump are still the original parts from Ford! (I have a Kenne Bell BAP set at 35%)
Most people will tell you not to go over 425 to 450 whp if you want your stock engine (bottom end) to last.

Good deal..is 8-9 # what Im looking to be at, or does it vary with every setup? Is that BAP easier/cheaper than getting a new fuel pump? What feul injector's are needed for your application? Does the boost# determine what size injector to get?
Sorry for all the questions...like I said, new to FI.
Edit: I see you have #42. What determines this? thanks

My setup is good for about 360-380 whp due to a conservative tune because of the stock engine.
The BAP is a simple install which does not require removing the fuel tank like installing another pump does.
The 42# injectors are good for my application, but if you planned on going over 400 whp, I would go with a forged bottom end and 60# injectors which would give you room to grow later.
Don't focus so much on the boost number as each modification changes that, focus more on the whp # and go from there. Ported heads will drop boost, but increase hp significantly on a FI car.

Thanks guys. Im not going FI until the spring so Im sure I will have more questions. I dont think I will be going forged but who knows. $ is deff. a concern. I dont want nothing too crazy but enough to lay it down when needed. Im shooting for that 375-400 hp range but room to grow doesnt sound too bad either..How much HP can these 4.6 blocks take?
62,000 i think now im almost at 65,000 no issues yet

The average person won't see the hp levels the "block" is capable of due to the cost of the exotic internal parts required to keep the engine "together". The limiting factors on the stock engine are the weak rods and pistons, cast crank and air flow of the heads to name a few...
If you install forged parts and improve the heads and other supporting mods, the engine can last a long time on a good tune.
However,
Some make over 450whp on the stock bottom end, but it won't usually last long, especially if driven hard.
