Hey everybody. I am the current owner of a '94 Integra GSR, but it's broken, and I was thinking of crossing over to domestics. They're cheaper to fix, and just as quick. So, I'm looking at this '96 GT 5spd, pretty nice. I need to know what some good parts are, whether anyone knows any good shops around Dallas, TX, and what would the big three (CAI, headers, and exhaust) net me as far as E.T. and hp/torque? Thanks alot
Well to start with your last statement, domestics aren't the dark side. They may be more powerful, but you have more fun.... ok maybe they are the dark side then..
Sounds like you got a nice pony picked out. Fords first attempt at a mod so for maximum performance the 99+ heads will gain you quite a bit.
As far as CAI,Headers,& Exhaust, I cant say for sure on the E.T.'s but someone else here can im sure. You can expect probably a good 30 ish horsepower depending on current condition, other accessories, and of course, brand choice. If you want to get a quicker stang, hold off on the Cold Air and use the money for a gear set and a speedo re-cal. May I suggest 3.55's? Another perk that most imports dont have.
As far as shops, I cant say as far as local but online there is DallasMustang.com Im not about advertising so just be sure to put a www. in front of that. Sorry it cant be a link.
Hope you enjoy your Mustang experience. Just think... wont your friends just love how youve turned the tables and dominate the streets?
Well as far as stock, the 96 GT is not the best year, don't get me wrong, its ok stock, and does have a lot of potential, but like Adam said, it was Ford's first attempt at the 4.6L powered stang, and power is not like the 5.0 of the previous year even though they have/had the same HP and torque rating. The big problem with the 96-98 2 valve GT's like Adam said, are the stock heads, changing to a 99+ PI package, which consists of the 4.6L heads, intake, headers, and a few other peices, and even though a bit of money will go out on these parts, the increase will be well worth it, not only HP is increased, but torque also, and not just in any rpm range, almost all the way across the board. You will make more power than a 99+ Mustang even though you are using the same parts, this is because the 96-98's have flat top pistons, while the 99+'s are dished, and when combined with the smaller chambers on the 99+ heads, compression goes up into the 11:1 range, plus the 96-98's are a little lighter car than the 99+ Stangs.
If you upgrade the heads/intake etc. other parts like CAI kits, headers, exhaust will have a greater impact on performance. Don't overlook the suspension, any added power won't do you any good unless you can hook it up, and stangs with stock suspensions don't hook up very well on the street, I would reccomend some sub-frame connectors, control arms, and maybe some stickier tires. Maximum Motorsports, Ford Racing and Kenny Brwon all make great suspension peices, and they shouldn't tap you out on cash.
Stock I'm sad to say, the rating is 15.1 I beleive, bit they hit high 14's with good drivers.

you will gain about 15 hp or more with just those....??
yOU ARE IN LUCK MY MAN......
To start.....the 96 is ok, but I would look at a 98 or higher.......
I have a modded to hell 98GT 5 spd.
I can help you with anything and I live in Mansfield.
HPP racing is where you want to be as far as a "real" shop goes....but I have chosen to go with one of the best builders in Dallas-- James K. (besides Manny at HPP)
He originally (still is) was an expert Camero/lt1 guy, but has ventured into Mod motors cause of me.....
Since he is "on his own" things go slow but are done to perfection......
You may be better off at a shop though...
The 96 should be ok if you want to spend a ton of money (you will anyways on any other year)........
The PI swap is a starter... (heads, intake, tubing)...good gaines
If you want to Sc later do not get UD pulleys or you wil have to remove them
Exhaust is another biggie to upgrade...(LT headers, X=pipe, catbacks)
75mm TB, 80mm maf, Cai will help too....
I would be glad to "show you" my car when it's done in a couple of weeks....???
Anyone besides me check the date on this thread. It was started before I joined the forum. WAY old. I wonder if he bought the car or not.

Yes, I did end up getting a '98 GT 5spd. Laser Red/black, 93k miles when I bought it . And of course I ended up have a few cracking intake manifold problems, blew headgaskets... car sat for 4 months while I got the money to fix it, and the parts. Ended up pulling the motor in my garage, fixing the headgaskets, and swapping on a PI intake manifold and some PI cams while I was in there. I also had a Bassani catted X-pipe, 2.5" flowtubes, cherry bomb mufflers (on the car when I bought it), and turndowns. I didn't get a chance to run it at the track, unfortunately, but it was fun when it ran. I had to get a truck for my job that I had then, so I got an '05 Frontier SE Crew Cab V6/6spd, and had it till about... 3.5 weeks ago. I then purchased another Mustang; '01 Zinc Yellow/Black leather 5spd with 43k miles. The car was owned by a 40-something guy, and it was his hobby; it has an Accufab 75mm TB, C&L intake arm, C&L upper-intake plenum, BBK equal-length shorties, some brand of catted X-pipe (looks high quality), and Borla exhaust as "power mods." But it also has a 2" drop courtesy of aftermarket springs/shocks (not sure of the brand, but they're GOOD stuff), f/r swaybars, subframe connectors, lower control arms, and Gripp caster/camber plates. It also has a Mach 1 chin spoiler and grille delete, and some 10th anniversary Cobra rims. And btw stanger4.6, my "ricer" ('94 Integra GS-R) ran a 14.97 @ 93.82mph bone stock, which is just as good as a non-PI GT 5spd .
Wow, first I was amazed that someone dug up this thread. I'm even more amazed that GSRguy came back to reply again. 2 posts in 4 years and both of them on this thread. That's quite odd. Welcome to our hobby, stick around for a while and enjoy the place. Sounds like you got one hell of a nice ride.

You know, anytime you want to give me your KB, it's cool with me . But yeah, the only things I'm doing in this car's near future are subwoofer/amp (actually might do that today), headunit/speakers (few months), and then 4.10s and pullies (not sure when). I am also planning on spraying it just a wee bit in the future...
Ehh...the KB looks good right where it is at the moment. If I change my mind you'll be the first to know

Its good to win an import driver to the Domestics!!!
"AIN'T" IT THE TRUTH!!! Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in.AMERICA.....
Keep this circulating
