Talking Yes, another question about gears.

I'm going to be getting my gears installed this spring. I have already got the speedo-cal. My question is what brand name gear do you guys recommend. Any positive/negative feedback will be welcomed. My car is a five speed.

I would go with frpp they seem to be the best. Try here http://www.gefracing.com/ for good prices.

Ford 3.73s are really good because they changed the way they make the gears. But all the other gear ratios are just ok... This came straight from the shop that installed mine.

Motives howle, I have set in my 03 Mach I. My 03 GT has FRPP (Ford) 4.10's no noises.I have a 03 Cobra project car that is getting 3.73's installed as we speak (FRPP).
FRPP are the very best..I have had more of their gears then I can count on both hands and feet and never had a problem...

My car has about 18000 miles on it. What do I need to buy in addition to the ring and pinion and the speed cal?

No i'm letting a local shop do the install but I figured if I bring all the necessary parts it will cut down on cost.

You will need Friction Modifier and if a shop is doing it, I would take in your own gear oil (they have a tendency to over charge for the gear oil).

Who gets a better price on parts??. A shop with a wholesale discount? Or a person buying retail??. I would suggest that you have the shop price the whole package. Ask them if they mind you buying your own parts. In my business I charge people extra that buy their own parts. Because They never pick up all the parts we need. they are always missing somthing. Or they buy some odd ball item that leaves us scratchen our heads trying to figure out how to put it together. Then comes warrenty. If it breaks the installer will say its the parts you bought. And the part seller will say its the installers fault!! Let the shop make a few bucks. They will take better care of you in the long run.

I know that the price for the ring and pinion at gefracing is less than what they quoted me. Also I figured that with the different websites Iwould be sure to find better pricing than the shop. Is there a friction modifier that is the best choice or more recommended than others? Also what about shim kits?
