I use mostly Macromedia programs and some WYSIWYG html programs but mostly stick with Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash.
Yes I can write HTML and some Java but the WYSIWYG is a good place to start.You can make your webpage and then look at what the HTML looks like to build it. Then eventually you can do see problems easier by looking at the HTML or JS.
It took me probably a month to get where I'm at now but I never pursued it any further. You have to be very creative to make it in the web design industry and I'm not very creative. Plus most of the guys in it have a BA in computer science. I mostly just use it to build pages for friends and churches for free.
