I just highly doubt Chevy would bring a 400 HP car to compete with their new base Corvette which happens to have 400 HP too. But i do agree with Driftpin on that Ford should of least stepped it up a few more notches on the GT, but 300 HP out of a GT ain't too bad either.
What are you talking about? It's allready been said..........why compare a new VW to an OLD stang...
Totally different classes..........
Just like the SRT-4, it at least the 03's are driver's race for us 99+guys, the 04 should take us IN THE LONG RUN........but who cares?
For the SRT-4 comparisson, we have a top of the line 4Cyl, FWD, beating all imports. Good job!
But when sayin well i kill GT's all the time, well, look up on the net and go to a 5.0 or 4.6 meet at a track. Think you'll beat everyone?
I would hope not.
The same goes for this thread starter, buy your VW. Then, go look up a Stang meet, ESPECIALLY a 98GT meet, or along those lines, and go with your attitude, and talk crap.
Then post the outcome please
keep your 98gt thats probably paid for or close to it and put a turbo or supercharger on it then you can kiss that lil 4 banger good by. in the end there can be only one and it will be a v8. no replacement for displacement whatever can be done to a four can be done to an eight end of story! and in your case it would be cheaper to boot.

I would look into a 1.8t Golf before I bought a VR6 (I'm assuming thats the 200hp model you're looking at, the 1.8t comes with 180 stock.)
The 1.8t's aren't that quick stock (roughy 15 flat) but I've heard of many going low 14s with just a chip, and others going high 13's with a chip and catback. There are even a few running low 13s on drag radials with bolt ons.
I've been looking into them as daily drivers for some time now, but I'm still suspect of the overall quality of the vehicle.
another thing that sucks about the 1.8ts is that you can't bolt on a bov the way that the turbo system is plumbed without throwing a check engine light. the bov is a pretty good tradeoff for the mustang sound, though i still think a loud modular mustang sounds awesome.
nevertheless, i'm looking for a dd that isn't loud. i've been driving a flowmaster equipped mustang of some sort since 1998. its time for a quiet commute.
oh he has a 2002 well same thing i said earlier applies tho you prob dont have it paid for yet anyway seems you have made up your mind so if i see ya on the highway ever ill wave at you when i pass ya, if you will beable too turn your head quick enough to see what made that loud noise that upset your quiet time lol

ford is falling behind on the gt's even the 05 300 hp gt it not enough for what this new v6's are pushing, i think they should supercharger the gt's like the cobra.
I agree with Quick 4.6 on the 1.8 GTI. You can go from 180 to 250 hp for around $1,000. With a curb weight of 2,900 lbs, that is a pretty good power to weight ratio.

Wow, I wasn't planning on buying one of the GTI's I was just surfing and said they have come along way since I last owned on. I couldn't even fit in one anymore, let alone my wheelchair too. I was just comparing it to a 98GT because it is a good representation as to how far they have come.
As far as the Chevelle/Morono goes I wouldn't consider a 400+ hp car competition to a 600+hp Vette. That like comparing apples to oranges. They already tested the GTO against the Cobra and the GTO failed horribly, Chevy has gotto do something. I was justeding the article in CHP and they made it sound like it may be a possiblity. You got to admit, the Morono looks good.

Yeah, but Chevy is going to sell more 400 HP base Corvettes then the 600 HP ones. I doubt they wan't a car in the states that is going to eat into their corvette sales.
From that end, the Morano doesn't really look that good to me.
Doesn't the money all go in the same pocket, It's a certain class of people that buy Vettes. That would make a nice addition to Chevy seeing that they don't have any sporty cars right now other than the Vette.

You're right about that, Chevy does need something to replace the F-Bodys, but I would much rather see that bring back the Camaro then bring over another rebadged car. That concept looked sweet and i would damn sure take it over the new Mustang.
