Default More PI Heads...and non-PI heads

Since this could be considered also part of Mana's "PI heads suck" thread, especially for us 96-98 guys, I wanted to remind you of a really good article concerning the Livernois manifold swap as well as porting done on the non-PI heads: June 2004 5.0 MUSTANG & SUPER FORDS, "Casting Doubt", pp. 71-76. This is a really great comparison of stock heads, FRPP heads, and PI heads, both ported & non-ported done on an ENGINE DYNO. I will add the final comparison to Wilit's great spreadsheet and repost within the next few days. The article's basic premise is that the non-PI heads aren't as bad as we give them credit for; that they respond well to porting IF THE PI intake valve is also used and the area around the intake valve is ported correctly. I've emailed Livernois for pricing to do exactly the work described in the article but haven't heard back yet. I'll try to scan the article for those who might have trouble locating it.

Basics:

Stock Non-PI motor: 237.4hp, 318.9tq
FRPP Heads & E46 Intake: 314.3hp, 344.3tq
PI Heads, Intake, Cams: 291.2hp, 334.7tq
Ported non-PI heads, PI intake, Livernois cams: 335.8hp, 335.2tq
Ported PI heads, PI intake, Livernois cams: 351.6hp, 340.4tq
