Just get an 03 or 04 Cobra put a Borla on it and a K&N FIPK and leave all that chop suey in your review mirror. I missed a gear b/c I havent installed a shift kit yet and I STill blew the doors off an STI after 100mph it wasnt even a race. The poor guy couldnr believe I wopped him so bad
a buddy of mine in his cobra raced an STI and he actually beat us off the line due to wheel hop. Those things are no joke, but then obviously we smoked him about .5 seconds later. Was one of the best competitors we've had so far though. They deserve some respect.

unless you want to keep up this apples and oranges debate.
From the factory an 05 sti is running 14 lbs of boost making 300hp(may be under-rated due to japans 300hp MAX law. (yea japans laws suck for them On a diffrent note, the evolution is running 19!!!!lbs of boost stock. ouch, and getting 271 from an 03/04. O5's get 276. This should tell you something. An 05 stang GT will make the same amount of hps as the sti does while its running 14lbs of boost as the GT makes N/A. The mustang is also running 87 octane while the turbo requires 91 (93 here in tx). Of course, due to japans laws the engines (STI/Evo) are pretty restricted and a downpipe or exhaust yields pretty icredible hp gains, but of course, mustangs are restricted also in order to keep StateFarm off your ass. Another intresting thing is how these cars must be raced in order to get those sweet 4.6 times, you've got to dump the clutch from over 4k rpms, vs the launch of an 05 at around 2k. The Sti's tranny isnt made for those kind of launches and tends to break rather easily. The WRX(a step upder the STI) is FAMOUS for breaking down and supposedly has a defect that they corrected in the STI w/ the 6 speed tranny. Subaru and ESPECIALLY mitsubishi arnt very helpfull when it comes to the warranty and often times will look for any excuse to void the warranty. The only negative between the 05 stang and 05 STI is that ford is claiming that they will sell close to 200k 05 stangs. If someone wants a limited edition car that makes the 2fast2furious Turbo'd Whooosh and street cred from the tuners, they will go that route.Maybe they also want superior handling(which is the only thing the sti has over the stang)which i doubt becuase you have to really take it to a track or the "twisties" to prove that. If you want a reliable motor/tranny combo that is FAST, want (imo) better styling and dont mind seeing 5 stangs beside you during rush hour, the 05 GT is the way to go.
A few years ago, 8 seconds would have been a WORLD RECORD for a production based vehicle.
Where do people get this stuff?!
Crap ya had to answer that didn't ya? And well the fastest STREET LEGAL car in the USA is a 8.9 sec Vette (Lingenfelter Twin Turbo) and yea it's pushin bout 900-1000 RWHP.
And who the crap cares if a STI can take a GT, look at the price range, match it against a damn 03/04 Cobra and watch it die. Put 2 grand into both, once against watch the STI die.
Only ricers compare such crap, my Korean friend would ALWAYS argue his Celica GT-S can take my V6. Who the HELL cares? Price range shows a GT is same as Celica GT-S so i would just argue a GT > Celica GT-S. Same price. Ricers have the mentality to pick on cars they can take, but 10/1 it's a more expensive car.
You don't see us saying a Trans Am can take a Civic SI, hell match it against any same priced car, it stomps Preludes, RSX Type S. Get over it. Domestic > Imports

hey venomoussc, thought I had to throw this in just because you live in maryland like me. You need to take a trip to frederick because I know for a fact that this 8.9 second car is not the fastest street legal car in America. The name of the place is slipping me right now but they own a purple supra thats running high 7's, and it remains street legal....I'll try to find out the name of the place

i love 03 cobras but thats questionable about throwing 2 grand into both and the cobra murdering it.... i bet money that the sti will beat a top end cobra with 2 grand... The cobra might make more power but no way you can get that power to the ground. Take an sti and with 2 grand prolly, up and down pipe, upgrade fuel system, and just up the boost like mad and tune it. Max the turbo out and with that much power and AWD it's deadly.
If there is a street legal company that makes 7 sec Supras, i think they would have some recognition, because that is big news. Too bad every magazine has already claimed lingenfelter the streets fastest. They know every big name out there and unless this 7 sec supra wasn't made by a tuner, then i don't see it possible.
And if he isn't a tuner, i HIGHLY doubt it's street legal. And how do you know this Supra is Street legal? Will it pass emmissions in EVERY state? I doubt that. These Vettes are proven to pass emissions even in California, the Vettes even have a HEAVILY power restricting stock cats on them

Steve that's where you are wrong... The Ling vettes are not california smog legal. I saw it on their website.
sti will rape a GT... off the line it's gonna be very ugly... from a roll it's gonna be ugly but not as bad.
i got a vid of a 480whp cobra getting raped off the line by a mild sti...
Our Mustang Club just had our annual show on November 7 at Palm Bay Ford. The same outfit owns the Subaru dealership next door. They had an 'O5 GT with a sticker around $26K and a WRX sti at $35K on display. At that price the WRX had better be faster. The Mustang was one hell of a nice looking ride. The WRX still looked like an econo box with a wing and fart pipe.

That my friend is all you need, to walk the STI you described.
If your any good at procuring parts you should have plenty left for a good cat back system too.
Not to mention if you bump that limit to say 4K, you can likely get a whipple replacement for the Eaton and start looking at some very serious power numbers.
AWD will help on a road course, but I doubt the difference is enough to make up for the huge defecit in power.
