No. the first thing I did after I bought my 98 was mod it........the warranty is crap on stangs and a new set of heads, a cam and crank will last longerthan the stock ones. You will still be covered on the basics anyways if you mod the engine. your brakes etc..are still covered.
I wish to god I still had my warranty. Then maybe I could get that stupid leaky oil gasket fixed without having to pay for 18 hours of labor. Enjoy your warranty while it lasts. You can still get away with little things here and there without them voiding it.

Yeah I know about the Federal law that states that warranties cannot be voided by aftermarket parts unless that part had a direct affect and can be proven to have caused a failure.
So that means that if I get cams and TB and plenum that they can't nail me if the alternator fails or if my windows won't go up and down.
Will they try and find a way around this and void my warranty anyway? How much leverage do any of us consumers have to tell them, HEY! I know the law! or whatever?

If something does happen tot he car (even though its not related to what you installed) then they will void it. However, some places will actually install the stuff for you... and they may be nice enough to not do that. More than likely though, they will.

Mods up next: Mid-length headers, mid-pipe
Mods in the near future: Heads, internals, and misc. engine things.
Mods in far future: Complete new suspension, new wheels, and complete body repaint and repair(to fix the dings of daily driving)... and then make her a weekend only car.
Look at it this way...if you mod now, and you have a mechanical failure, you're going to pay for it out-of-pocket. If you wait until your warrantee expires, and you have a mechanical failure, you're going to pay for it out-of-pocket. So what's the difference other than waiting three years to enjoy the performance gains...go for it now!!
HOWEVER, if an out-of-pocket cost for repair is a problem for you, DONT mod your car. Anytime you take a stock motor and radically increase the hp and torque, you increase the chance of mechanical failure. I would like to assume that anyone who can afford $3500 for a supercharger can afford to have their car fixed if something went wrong, but then again...
I can honestly say that I have NEVER had a repair fall under warrantee. Most of the things that go wrong seem to happen AFTER the warrantee expires...of course, I wouldn't know about cars built in the last 10 years...I've leased my last 3 vehicles and turned them in after 3 years.
This Mustang will be the exception...I'm going to mod the $hit outta this thing and keep it for a toy!!
Do a google search on the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act (thats the federal law that provides for consumer warranty protection). You'll also find information about it on the SEMA website.
The bottom line is that the dealership has the burden of proof that the mod caused a warranteed part to fail.

Sorry to dredge this blast from the past up, but I can now say that my warranty is officially through... just crossed the 36,000 mile mark last night. Now I need to find another daily driver and tear the engine out of this one, I've got alot of work to do!!!

Wow, it took me a minute to figure out that this thread is like 2 years old. I thought I found someone that had almost as low miles on their '04 like mine. I have 6k on my 04 now. As for the warranty, I don't care about it. I won't bring my car back to the dealer becuase I don't want anyone working on it other than me so I'll mod to my hearts content.

I was in the same boat for a minute. I thought it was really weird that someone had an 04 was 7k on the clock. I waited til 31K to put the blower on ours. It just turned 37K on the way home from work yesterday. I did the 37K oil change this afternoon. I think this weekend I'll do a power steering flush. A tip from a buddy told me these steering racks are hard on the fluid for some reason.

I've never cared about warranties, generally because i can fix anything that goes wrong for cheaper, and i can rest assured that i fixed it, not some dumbass workin on flat rate.

My warranty came in handy when my buddy threw a synchro at about 17,000 miles. They covered it, thank god. I only had to charge my friend for the rental car the week it was at the dealer.
Funny though, when I got home last night, I went to put a shirt on the hanger in the back of the Mustang on the passenger side, and the hook fell off, at like 36,015 miles, HAHAHA I laughed my ass off. The plastic had melted in the summer heat I guess and had slipped past the screw.
I never believed my Dad when he told me that things fall to crap as soon as the warranty is up.
